Devon/Somerset/Dorset Campsite recommendations

Hello

We are planning annual leave and booking this year's trips, and are looking for campsite recommendations in the South West please (although not Cornwall, we live there and have been to most areas!)

Basic requirements:
Half decent toilet/shower blocks
Child friendly

Would be nice:
Washing up station
Phone charging points
Ice block freezers
Doesn't cost a fortune!

Two younger primary aged DC, we like to explore local areas, big fans of a beach with clean water (so please don't suggest Weston super Mare!!). Don't mind a day trip to a zoo/theme park etc if one nearby. Like the back to basics elements of camping so not necessarily looking for an all singing all dancing holiday park, although also wouldnt discount these either!

Any hidden gems that you've found?

Caffyn’s Farm. I’ve been twice and absolutely loved it. A smallish campsite with a farm shop, good facilities, really friendly helpful staff and a direct walk through the woods down to the beach. They also had llamas and things when I was there. Short hop over to the gorgeous Valley of Rocks.

If you do go, let me know if the dog (Bowson) is still alive - he was a total poppet (even if he nicked our sausages)

Have camped at 2 sites over the last 3 years
We live in Dorset, so not far from us
In no particular order:
Acton field site in the Purbecks, not far from Swanage, me and our DD have stayed there for joint birthday celebrations
Hired a bell tent (separate company ) for the girls , stayed in tents myself, my friend sleeps in her van with her mum
This is such a peaceful, family friendly site, has toilets/showers/washing up sinks, the views are amazing, beautiful , it has its own unique style ,
I’ve heard that families stay there for a few weeks over the Summer, you can walk to the square and compass pub in Worth Matravers, theres dinosaur footprints along the way
As a family we stayed at the National Trust site in Worth Matravers , Weston Farm
Its got fabulous views, great showers/toilets
We took our own tents but you can hire their bell tents,
like acton field-its a simple basic site, no entertainment, but both have a family friendly, easy going vibe, as long as the sun is shining both are perfect .

I was coming along to recommend Wareham Forest tourist Park as well, really lovely and in summer there is the Breezer bus which runs from the park via other campsites to Swanage. If you drive, Studland Beach which is gorgeous is about 20 minutes. For days out there is monkey world and the Tank Museum both about 15 minutes drive away. The park is really well run and apparently about 70% of their business is repeat customers who have been coming for decades in some cases.

Church farm sixpenny handley (Dorset near Salisbury) is lovely, small quiet and friendly

Either Cummins Farm or West Fleet Holiday Farm, would be my recommendation

Thank you so much for all your replies - looks like there's suggestions from all parts of the price and facilities spectrum, looking forward to working my way through these in some more detail 😊

Caffyns Farm in North Devon is lovely. Family friendly and meets your requirements. Really nice food in the cafe. Woolacombe beach is about half an hour’s drive.

We went to Ruda Holiday Park at Croyde bay last summer for a week.

The RLNI lifeguarded beach is two mins walk from the campsite and is just heavenly, brilliant for surfing and body boarding.

The site has a pool and the village itself is lovely, small, some eateries, pub, market.

We spent some very happy camping holidays at Acton Fields when our dcs were little - near Swanage and Studland Bay for beaches, Corfe Castle, Brownsea Island, and importantly, walking distance to a pub (if it’s still there). It was pretty basic but clean and friendly, with views over to the Isle of Wight. This was a good 10 years ago though so I couldn’t vouch for it now.

We have enjoyed Wareham Forest too. Another lovely site is Ladram Bay, great for your age children and lots locally including Crealy
