Day in London with 5 year old - what’s the top thing you’d do?

We’ll have the best part of a full day there next week. DD wants to see Big Ben and Buckingham Palace so we’ll do that, and also I lived near Tower Bridge for a few years way back when I was first out of uni so we’re going to have a look round there and see where I used to live and obviously the Tower (debating getting tickets to go in, I never did even when I lived there).

Beyond that I’m not really sure, my plan was just to sort of wander and see the main sights but the weather isn’t looking the best and we should probably make a bit more of a structured plan anyway. So what’s the one or two things (aside from what I’ve mentioned) you’d do if you were us?

(I remember being hugely underwhelmed by the Natural History Museum but that’s not to say DD wouldn’t like it, we do the one in Manchester fairly often though).

Funnily enough my phone threw me an album of memories today from a half term 7 years ago, ds was 7 and we: went to Leicester Square and had our faces printed onto a pot of M&M’s (we don’t particularly like them however it was quite fun 🤣), went to the Lego store, did a bit of climbing in Trafalgar Square, walked through Hyde park and got a pedalo on the serpentine, had a 3 course lunch in a Browns because they had a starter of mini sausages and it was his absolute highlight of his day, wandered along the southbank and he spent ages watching the skateboarders, went on the big carousel, watched some street entertainers in Covent Garden… so much to see and do. We have been before and since and done things like museums (although neither of us are especially into them in general), cable car near the 02, sky gardens, Greenwich observatory, boat trip down regents canal from Camden, you can see some of the zoo animals along the way. He didn’t like heights so the cable car was not one to repeat and for the same reason he doesn’t want to to do the wheel or the shard!

My boys loves the imperial war museum and a visit up to the Sky garden
