What are the types of people you won’t travel with ?

here is my list.

  1. People who complain that English isn’t spoken in a country that is obviously not an English speaking country
  2. The type of person who is easily irritable. Someone who complains about small things such as train or flight delays, No air conditionings, noise, Pollution from cars whatever. Someone who you easily get into bickerings with.
  3. The party animal. The type who wanna go to clubs and party and get stupid drunk.
  4. The type who wants to sleep in. If you wanna sleep in, you shouldn’t travel. Stay home.
  5. The all inclusive resort people. If someone suggests a trip and I hear the word Cancun, Montego Bay, punta Cana, Cayman Islands, st Martin, I am blocking them. All inclusive resorts are dystopian and people who stay at all inclusive resort are just as dystopian.
  6. Someone who is strapped for cash. If you can barely afford to pay rent, you should not travel.
  7. The type who refuse to use alternative modes of transport. I don’t mind flying but when I travel from one European country to another, I refuse to fly. I strictly use trains or even coach buses.
  8. The type who use travel agents to plan trips.
9 the type of traveller who always wanna take selfies.

Oh God another judgy travel thread from this poster. Where does your weird obsession with this come from OP? Are we going to get the list of French places you've been again that you think nobody else has been to? Is Poland still a boring country? What's your problem with other people making different travel choices to you? It's really odd.

MissingSockDetective · 14/02/2026 06:05

The type who are so closed minded as to believe Carribbean Islands etc only have exclusive AI resorts. The Cayman Islands and many others have a fascinating history if you look beyond those.

People who ever use the word 'wanna'.

Isthisit2025 · 14/02/2026 06:17

I travel only with my partner or family. I am too easily compromised by what others want and do do. I miss out a lot because of that so I just don’t do that anymore.

You’re very lucky if you have a travelling partner who sings from the same hymn sheet. Personally I’ve never found it. Not saying I have a checklist either, and my friends are not ‘bad’ people, we are just different that’s all.

Walkacrossthesand · 14/02/2026 06:47

Do you count Trailfinders as ‘travel agents’? Because they have huge expertise in worldwide and adventure travel, and can save you hours of internet trawling to plan your trip!

bumphousebump · 14/02/2026 06:51

People who naff around and don’t leave the hotel/accommodation until 2 in the afternoon…I’m an up and out after breakfast kind of holiday person. I’d drive anyone mad who likes a naff about for half the day.

purplecorkheart · 13/02/2026 14:06

People who are late and hold everyone up.

This 1000%

I am the sort of person who, if told they have to check in 2 hours before a flight, will be there at least 2.5 hours before. My nightmare travel companion would be the person who cuts everything fine and risks missing the deadlines.

And I do research places and make lists because I don't want to miss something important through lack of planning.

This might sound upright but I have always found part of the enjoyment of a holiday is the planning and anticipation. I really don't want to rock up to somewhere with no thought at all about what I am going to do while I am there.

Oh yes, this.

We have travelled a lot in Europe and mostly organise it ourselves. But last year we went to talk to them about a trip to NZ and they really were very, very good and set up something much better then we could have organised for ourselves. Very knowledgeable.

This year we have booked a trip to China with them. Definitely something we wouldn't have felt confident doing for ourselves

saraclara · 17/02/2026 00:30

A holiday is whatever makes you happy. I don't judge others' holidays.

But I don't travel with people who enjoy very different holidays from mine, because it would be frustrating for both of us. Fortunately not many people enjoy my kind of holiday (backpacking on a budget in off the beaten track countries) so I'm pretty safe! But if you enjoy an all inclusive on a beach, neither of which you're inclined to leave, enjoy!

Ha ha! I do have a travel buddy who comes along on the occasional backpacking trip with me. We travel really well together, except for the timing thing. I get to the airport/station silly early. He gets there by the skin of his teeth. If his train isn't already pulling in as he gets to the platform, he thinks he's early! He's caused me so much stress in the past, but he now tries to allow more time so as not to freak me out, and I've learned to be a bit more zen while waiting for him to arrive at the airport.

LamonicBibber1 · 17/02/2026 00:52

The pp who said, the friend who won't pay more for a hotel but then picks apart every aspect of the shit one they chose .. YES. I must be friends with this person too 😂🤡

I love them dearly, but next time I am putting a ban on complaining about easily avoidable room issues being discussed to death, just so they could save a tenner. Such a waste of energy!

ThePerfectWeekender · 17/02/2026 00:54

You...

havingoneofthosedays · 17/02/2026 01:07

No Ibiza for you this year then?

EstoyRobandoSuCasa · 17/02/2026 01:15

The type who expect you to stick together 24/7. Worse still, the type who expect you to stick together 24/7 and choose what you do each day. I have no idea how my parents put up with my aunt and uncle.

The type who keep worrying about the effect of the climate on their hair and spend ages styling it. We're nearly 2,000 miles from home, Michelle. No one cares if your hair is slightly frizzier than usual.

The type who go abroad only to spend the whole time going between the hotel pool and hotel bar. Sometimes they combine the two and loudly sing "Sweet Caroline" while drinking beer in their swimsuits. SO GOOD! SO GOOD! SO GOOD! I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this, it just wouldn't be for me. And I doubt that clomping around Roman ruins in the heat would be for them.

Timeforchai · 17/02/2026 01:18

Noisy party animals who just want to get drunk
Those who complain about “ foreigners” when they’re abroad.
People who don’t want to explore but prefer to sit by the pool.
People who complain about “foreign food” and do not embrace the local culture.

In fact, most people! I’m very choosy who I go on holiday with as holidays are expensive.

I’m sure most people feel the same way in looking for someone compatible with similar tastes and lifestyle.

Thedogscollar · 17/02/2026 01:46

Somebody who makes this sort of dictatory list.
You sound like a nightmare. I imagine you holiday alone.

Sudagame · 17/02/2026 01:48

Smokers.

GaIadriel · 17/02/2026 01:54

FionnulaTheCooler · 11/02/2026 18:40

People who are uptight about other people wanting to have a drink and a lie in on their holidays.

Was gonna say this. I want to stay up late, have a lie in, and then sit by the pool until it's time for a nice lunch. Fuck being dragged to the cucumber museum or some bullshit.

BeanQuisine · 17/02/2026 02:36

Not much of a one for travel, but when I do, I prefer to go alone or with a very close friend who, like me, basically just wants to have a quiet, relaxing week in a pleasant corner of the countryside or by the sea, preferably not too far away and not densely populated.

I expect good food, drinks, good walks, reading, perhaps a little antique shopping and plenty of lie-ins. Always happy to visit local museums, but I tend to steer clear of Sistine Chapels and the screamers therein.

Friendlygingercat · 17/02/2026 02:47

People whose interests are completely different from mine
People who object to my going off alone for some me time
People who want to plan every day like a military operation
People who just want to cop off with the opposite sex
People who just want to sit by the pool
People who dont share expenses fairly
Fussy eaters - that includes vegetarians and vegans

Needless to say I prefer to travel alone.

Greenfinch7 · 17/02/2026 02:53

People who are very anxious about travelling, need everything planned, and want everything to work perfectly

People whose attitude to spending money is really incompatible with mine- just doesn't work on a holiday!

FruitFlyPie · 17/02/2026 03:30

For me it's people that aren't independent and can't go anywhere or be left anywhere by themselves. Who keep asking where are we going today and then complaining about it. When I point out they don't have to come and can do their own thing, suddenly my idea is great.

However I won't say I won't travel with these people, as there is too many of them it's impossible to avoid. So I'll just agree to be slightly annoyed and later complain about them behind their back.

I want the name of the travel agent!

GentleHedgehog · 17/02/2026 05:45

People who take hours and hours to get ready to go to the beach, on a trip etc

'So what are we doing today?' people who need a jam-packed itinerary for every day of the holiday

People who are over-fussy about local food, turn their nose up at all of it, and display working class snob tendencies

People who expect me to get up early on holiday. Leave me alone - sometimes I want to lie in, then have a leisurely breakfast on the patio just taking in the sounds and sights before starting the rest of the day.

I can be a party animal when ready, I like to have fun. But getting drunk is a No-No. I don't want to look after anybody who can't hold their drink, it puts us both in a vulnerable position.

Its better when similar personalities holiday together
