We discovered Wales last year and fell in love with it. We went twice last year and want to go again at Easter but can't decide where to go that will live up to past experience!
We have stayed near Conwy and Llandudno. We loved Conwy Castle, the walk to Aber Falls, seeing the seals in Angel Bay.
The second time we stayed in New Quay, saw the dolphins, visited Devil's Bridge and and a beach with a waterfall.
These are the kinds of things we love to do. Any suggestions for where else would like? Considering Tenby, visiting Skoma island for the puffins.

If you like the Conwy area, exploring Gwynedd and Anglesey seem the obvious next step, albeit some of it is further off the beaten track. The Llyn Peninsula area is amazingly beautiful. Also you should do the Puffin Island cruise if you're into puffins and seals. Leaves from Beaumaris in Anglesey. Caernarfon Castle is even more complete than Conwy so also worth a look.

Tenby is great, avoid in high summer though.

HedgehogCrisps · 03/01/2026 14:28

I like Tenby but far prefer it out of school holidays. It gets pretty busy there.

My favourite places in Pembrokeshire are around St Davids. We change between accommodation there, Porthgain and Solva. Porthgain being out preferred choice. We spend our days walking the coastal path and end the day with a meal in a local pub.

Another place we visit is Beddgelert. Again for walking/exploring and a pub.

Willowskyblue · 03/01/2026 14:33

We love the beaches and coastline of south Wales around Mumbles/Gower. So much nicer and more accessible than Cornwall. Stayed in an amazing location. Happy to share if you’d like to PM me.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 03/01/2026 15:20

Would canoeing/paddle boarding over the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct do you, OP? It's in Llangollen, and the views are incredible! There are quite a few things to do in and around Llangollen, so it's quite popular with tourists (and there are a lot of accommodation options to choose from).

Chirk Castle isn't very far away, and nor are Conwy Castle or Eyri/Snowdonia National Park, if you wouldn't mind going to either of those again. Caernarfon Castle is a bit further out, but would be fine if you don't mind a drive.

wizardchess · 03/01/2026 21:43

Thanks for the ideas! The Gower was another area I was looking at. Will try to pm you @Willowskyblue

Edited to add I can't PM. It's giving me the rage!

St David's is beautiful in spring. The daffodils are amazing.
So much of Wales is just stunning. Maybe do a bit of a road trip?

Willowskyblue · 04/01/2026 09:18

@wizardchess we have stayed here

Both through the same person but there are lots of places to choose from and many near the beaches. It’s also so much cheaper than places like Cornwall but, in my opinion, much nicer and easier to travel to and around. When the kids were younger, we’ve been by train and used buses or walked but a car is needed to visit beaches/sights further afield.

wizardchess · 04/01/2026 11:43

Thanks for that, the second one looks amazing. The first link doesn't seem to work properly. Mumbles is a definite possibility. Will check out St David's too.

I just want to caution you about the puffin island tour - do not go on the boat if you get at all sea sick. The water can be very choppy. I've never done it but I've heard tales of people losing their lunch!

wizardchess · 04/01/2026 11:48

Oh no! That doesn't sound good. Really want to do that as well

The puffin trip on to Skomer is amazing 😍 🤩

TeaAndTalesMama · 04/01/2026 11:54

DH and I want to take our children to Wales this year, we usually do Cornwall and my girls love the beaches down there. Could anyone recommend places with a lovely beach? We usually stay in St.Ives but it is very expensive, so something similar and a little cheaper would be great. Thanks 😊

HollyDollyPollyLollyMolly · 04/01/2026 11:56

Another vote for Gwynnedd. We live just out of Porthmadog which is quite busy but there are so many gorgeous places on the Llyn to visit!

DeathMetalMum · 04/01/2026 12:01

We have been to and loved New Quay, the dolphins are amazing. We are very familiar with llandudno/conwy area as we live North West England. We love llyn peninsula too, it's a great base for exploring Snowdonia and Llangollen. We have walked a few stretches of the Wales coast path that way and always see seals popping their heads up to check what's going on. You also have Anglesey nearby which has so much to see.

Had never encountered this... but I'm pretty good with boats and don't get seasick much, so am perhaps not the best person to give an opinion on choppy waters.

333FionaG · 04/01/2026 12:02

Another vote for the Llyn Peninsula. It's beautiful, although very touristy and prices reflect that.

If you want beaches then Colwyn Bay has a lovely stretch of family friendly beach, and you can hire paddleboards and kayaks, and treat yourselves to a sauna on the sea front, if you fancy it.

Llandudno has a lovely seafront, and the pier is good fun, with fairground rides, cafes, a bar, amusement arcades, fish and chips - all the usual seaside attractions.
You can get a cable car to the summit of the Great Orme, and have lunch at the top and a game of crazy golf if you fancy it.

I am biased because I live in Conwy county.

You have done some of the gems I would recommend.
How about the Llyn Peninsular?
Nefyn
Abersoch?
Criccieth ( like stepping back in time in a good way)
Llanbedrog
Trefor, its different in a good way very quiet

Whilst in the Area you must book and visit Caffi Largo in Pwllhei the best cafe we have ever been too, the cakes are fantastic.
https://www.facebook.com/CaffiLargo/

The Ty Coch inn ( Red House) voted one of the best beach bars in the world
http://www.tycoch.co.uk
You can drive down the coast to Harlech Castle, Barmouth, Dollgellau.
Have to put my soap box away now its just a fantastic area

Trefor Beach | Visit Snowdonia

There are extraordinary views of the Llŷn Peninsula from this unusual little village. Trefor developed thanks to the local granite quarry. Its small harbour became extremely busy in the days when the granite was shipped to all over Europe.

Pembrokeshire has lots of great beaches and, although busy in the summer, not as crowded as Cornwall.
We love Anglesey, again great beaches.

If you go to Pembroke you will find the same type of beaches as there is in Cornwall rocky coves on the top and lovely safe sandy beaches on the bottom. Without the crowds. Check out Saundersfoot that has a huge beach. If you want to see the puffins have a day out here. Puffin Magic - Pembrokeshire Islands Boat Trips, Marloes Traveller Reviews - Tripadvisor

Pembrokeshire has some fab beaches. The St Davids area has Whitesands and Caerfai and there are great beaches all the way round the coast.

Tenby is beautiful! Gorgeous beaches for families, and a lively town too.
