London adults only

I've been to London with the kids and stayed in various yha hostels but this will be our first time going adults only and the choice of hotels is overwhelming.

We will arrive at St pancras international station and leave by Liverpool Street. In between we are going to probably a west end show one night, a Tower of London at night event, and want to go to Buckingham palace one morning to hear the music. What areas of this vast city do you suggest for staying in? No mobility issues and happy walking.

Thinking either premier inn tower bridge, or Shoreditch area? It will be a budget/ chain accomodation.

Tavistock hotel by Tavistock square is fairly central and reasonably priced.

So the train stations you are travelling from/to are in North and East London, the Tower of London is ultimately East London, but the West End and Buckingham Palace are in South West London. Shoreditch is poorly served with public transport links to central or South West London.

Definitely not Shoreditch, it's trendy but not convenient to anything. Tower Bridge isn't bad. If you can find something in budget near Baker Street tube area that's good for transport links, or possibly Paddington. Be careful around Edgeware Rd if you look in that direction, it's not the nicest at night.

Near Euston Square/Kings Cross St Pancras could be good also.

When will you be traveling? The time of year makes a difference as to how rammed things will be!

Have a look at the chain of Imperial Hotels in Bloomsbury. Nicer than Premier Inn and Bloomsbury is a really good location (although I don't want my bit of town overrun by tourists so behave yourself! Grin )

There are three Premier Inns near Kings Cross station: two on Euston Road (one of which is closer to Euston than King's Cross) and one round the corner from the station on York Way. Not the quietest of areas but good Underground services from King's Cross.

I'm intrigued to know what music you are expecting at Buckingham Palace?

Luckyforsome23 · 18/12/2025 12:40

I suspect the music is changing of the guard.

Plexie · 18/12/2025 20:22

Thanks @Luckyforsome23 I didn't know there was music.

Eh?? The Tower of London is classed as Central London. The West End is classed as Central London (rather than SW London). Liverpool Street is also classed as Central London. Shoreditch is within a couple of mins walk to Liverpool St so isn’t “poorly served” with public transport links at all. Unless you count the Elizabeth line and the 4 tube lines that stop at Liverpool Street as being “poorly served”. Watch out for those invisible buses at the Liverpool Street terminus too. 😛

Don’t stay in Paddington as there’s no point being based there other than there are lots of cheap hotels and it’s handy for trains to/from Paddington (when they’re running).

Have a look at Premier Inns at Tower Hill and County Hall (Westminster). The Westminster one gets booked up very early as it’s one of the most popular for tourists in London. Both are directly connected via tube (District/Circle lines) to everywhere you’ve listed being KIngs Cross, Liverpool St, Tower of London (station: Tower Hill), Buckingham Palace (station St James’ Park or Westminster or Victoria), West End theatres (Embankment or Temple).

Edit: I forgot to add that Tower Hill and County Hall are also well served by the river bus (aka Uber boats).

Second edit 🙄: You’re planning on visiting at one of the busiest times as that last weekend in March will be the start of the Easter school holidays so London will be rammed. You need to book your hotel asap as prices will rocket quickly and anywhere well located and reasonably priced will get booked up very quickly.

Have you chosen somewhere OP? I stayed at the Z hotel on the strand recently, it was awesome, such good value for money too.

user1471464218 · 30/12/2025 15:43

Yes, booked premier inn hub at the Old Bailey. I can't remember why I didn't book premier inn Tower Bridge......

I recently stayed at the Premier Inn Tower Bridge and it was great. The location is excellent and the staff are so kind and pleasant.
