WWYD Hotel with no dinner

WWYD.

DD (10) and I are away for a much needed night away and booked a Dinner, B&B package a couple of days ago for a country hotel an hour from home, in the middle of nowhere.

No mention of needing to make a dinner reservation and on check in was told dinner couldn't be booked until 9.30pm, but was told if I went at 6pm when the restaurant opened they would squeeze us in.

Went at 6pm and was very aggressively told by the restaurant manager they couldn't fit us all this evening, the bar was noisy and had no space but we could sit outside on the patio. It's absolutely freezing here! Room service is non existent and too far away from the nearest pub town to get food, DH dropped us off and no taxis.

Am I wrong to expect to be given dinner when I booked a Dinner, B&B breakfast only a few days ago? What would you do? I asked at reception and they said only the restaurant manager could help........

That’s terrible. Will they do room service?

Blueuggboots · 22/11/2025 18:39

I would complain and explain that you booked a DBB deal and with a 10 year old, you would expect a reasonably times table would have been booked.

PigletMum40 · 22/11/2025 18:39

Unfortunately they won't do room service, they are too busy!

That's appalling - you booked the package so you should receive the whole thing. Normally with dinner, b & b you're asked what time you want dinner when you book or check in - I'd be telling them I want a discount, unless they can do room service?

SirChenjins · 22/11/2025 18:42

Sorry, cross posts.

How do they plan to honour the package you booked? Ask to speak with the duty manager.

Are there Christmas parties going on?
Its no excuse but some hotels sem to treat other guests like crap when this happens.
Tell the hotel they sort out food or you will be getting a Deliveroo and a partial refund

purplecorkheart · 22/11/2025 18:48

Honestly, probably would order to the patio. Stand inside where yoy can see the table and then when it is served bring it upstairs to room yourself. Tomorrow complain about restaurant manager.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/11/2025 18:48

I have always booked a table in the restaurant when booking a dinner b+b deal.

They should have asked you when you booked.

Get onto deliveroo or ubereats and order something tasty to enjoy in your room. You can negotiate a part refund while you wait for it to be delivered.

This, who else would be there?!

helpfulperson · 22/11/2025 18:49

Can you not accept the patio and then just take your food up to your room? It isn't right and isn't great but it would get you fed. Or have a look and see if there is a just eats or similar (although if no taxi's I realise that is unlikely)

Arlanymor · 22/11/2025 18:53

If it's a dinner package then I think the onus is on them to ask you what time you want to eat when you check in. It's not acceptable to be unable to book until 9:30pm when they know you have paid for a package that includes dinner!

I would bundle up and order to the patio - do they have heaters? - and then raise it in the morning with the restaurant manager's manager.

Pastit12 · 22/11/2025 19:16

Can you order takeaway to be delivered so you at least have some food and tell hotel you will be expecting a reduction in the bill

Zanzara · 22/11/2025 19:33

I would be bollocking the duty manager as we speak. They should not make offers and enter contracts they have no intention of fulfilling. Please do not freeze!

What happened in the end?
