I had some fab ideas from here when I went to Edinburgh, so now planning a weekend in Liverpool!

Ideas please for hotel, itinerary, where to eat etc.

Reasonable budget, not quite 5 Star no expense spared, but good solid 4 Star with some luxury and good living!

Fab tapas place opposite the town hall

ellyoctober · 18/10/2025 00:01

best advice is to wrap up warm, it’s a windy city

Forgottenmyphone · 18/10/2025 06:36

The Halyard is a lovely hotel in a great location.

heartsinvisiblefury · 18/10/2025 07:01

Lots of fabulous places but agree with above poster - it’s windy!!! And cold - but wonderful!

We have just been! We are not huge Beatles fans however. The Cathedral is absolutely amazing and do go and spend time exploring. We did not go into the catholic cathedral but this is also amazing from the outside. If you are doing the ferry wrap up warm as it was very chilly last week. We went to the Walker museum which was very good and there is a beautiful garden opposite. Albert Dock has lots of places to eat. The Liver Building is great to see but we did not go in. We just wandered and had a great time.

Take the Metro to Port Sunlight. Do a walking tour of the area and visit the art gallery. The Maritime Museum by the river is good. If you aren’t into the Beatles there is lots to do. We took the hop on / hop off bus and visited both cathedrals.

Crowne Plaza, very central, on the waterfront, with views of The Mersey, with a great breakfast and fabulous pool, was a big hit with my young adult kids.

PersephoneParlormaid · 18/10/2025 07:19

Go on the ferry and up the Liver building. If the weather is good a trip to Crosby or Formby beach.

BadActingParsley · 18/10/2025 07:28

We stayed in the old town hall recently and it was excellent, also crowne plaza. There are lots of very good places to eat.duke street market, bold street (I liked Maray). If the weather is nice go out and see the gormley figures. All the museums are very good.

OnlyOnAFriday · 18/10/2025 07:30

I don’t think the Tate has reopened yet or I’d recommend that.
Maritime museum is good as is the Walker Art gallery.

Mikart · 18/10/2025 16:43

Love Hope St Hotel with both cathedrals on the street and near Philharmonic pub. Vivienne Westwood exhibition on at Walker Art Gallery. Lark Lane for great food.

redfishcat · 18/10/2025 18:22

Go and see the Anthony Gormley figures on the beach at Cosby. The train get you close and it’s an easy walk to the beach

Titanic hotel

Depends on your budget. The Liver View guest house across the Mersey is a fantastic place to stay, with a brilliant breakfast and excellent owners. You can get the ferry across to the city. Or Crowne Plaza if your budget is bigger and want to be in the centre.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/10/2025 18:56

We stayed at the Pullman last time we visited- a bit of a walk from the centre but very nice. We used to stay in the Malmaison but it wasn’t as good last time we went there.

Going up the Liver building is a bit overpriced but very good. Bold street good for food. The maritime museum is excellent. Both cathedrals well worth a look.

Soozikinzii · 18/10/2025 18:59

We stay in the liner hotel next to lime street station .family owned really nice staff . Ma Egertons across the road serves the best scouse and meat platters . Empire theatre and st georges hall nearby . A walk up through Bold street with independent cafes etc to China town. Philharmonic and the catherdrals . Opposite way down through Matthew st where theres always Beatles music , Liverpool one, ferry and Albert dock etc .

Pattygonia · 18/10/2025 19:01

Fab Indian food at Bundobust on Bold Street. Moray also a really nice restaurant - one on Bold Street and one on the docks
Walker Gallery is excellent as is Lady Lever at Port Sunlight

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/10/2025 19:05

I’ve only been to Maray in Manchester rather than Liverpool, but would highly recommend the food.

MrsAvocet · 18/10/2025 19:15

The Western Approaches museum is very good if you're interested in war history. There are a few interesting guided tours - the Liver buildings, and Mersey Tunnel tours are both good and Williamsons Tunnels are a bit out of the ordinary.

nessnessness · 18/10/2025 19:55

Thank you everyone! Some great ideas. Now for some planning 😊

Another vote for the Western Approaches! It’s an amazing museum

Funf · 22/10/2025 11:20

Bold Street or a short drive / ride from the city is Lark Lane for food
La Parilla is good, Bundo bust Indian street food is fantastic
Western approaches I believe is very good, plenty of museums just check what's open.
Liverpool one just shops
Redbrick market lots of small shop units selling all sorts lots of second hand.
Baltic market has a very random selection of food, Press Brothers is great for coffee.
It can be very cold around the Dock Area but Albert dock is worth a visit
The waterspouts centre do a boat tour of the dock which is excellent and if you are up for it they take you to a dock with no speed limit and run the boat flat out which is fantastic.

All depends on what you want to see and do?
A train or car ride away
Southport a Victorian sea side resort
Chester
Zoo
Knowsley Safari park
Crosby beach not a lot there just a big empty beach with some metal men on it.
New Brighton, nice little seaside place.
Once you start to look its great base not just for Liverpool but north wales is only an hour away as is Chester
