I really liked the Durham Botanic Gardens. Lovely hothouses and lots of child-friendly running around space. A short bus ride from the centre.

There is also a good natural history museum (can't remember name) with loads of stuffed animals.

We had a great few days. Enjoy!

I know that the Guinness Factory is perhaps overplayed, but it is a great exhibit, really well done. Plus free Guinness!

(Excellent public transport btw)

Wisteria · 03/06/2008 10:38

If you did want to go to the Guinness Museum with children, it's useful to know that part of the exhibit is a non-stop running of the old Guinness animated cartoon commercials. My DCs loved these. It was weeks before they stopped singing 'Guinnes is Good for You, cha, cha, cha.

Do one of the open top bus tours, the tour guides are brill, very funny and he will point out loads of things you would have missed wondering about by your selves

morethanmum · 03/06/2008 11:05

NoBiggy · 03/06/2008 11:13

It's years since I went, so maybe it's all different, but Grafton St for strolling, shops and buskers. Gallaghers Boxty House was good for food (although they'd run out of boxties the lunchtime we were there ). We did a train trip, didn't take too long to travel the line end-to-end, and there was a little harbour at one of the ends. We saw seals, which is always thrilling

morethanmum · 03/06/2008 11:14

Wow, thanks. Will print this off and stick it with the tickets. Dublin Pass?

The Botanic Gardens are great.
Irish Film Centre does pretty good cheap food, also FXBs on Pembroke Street for really good steaks.
I suggest take the DART to Howth, there is a lovely harbour with playground, seals Nobiggy, think this must be where you went, fishing boats, and great restaurants (Rec the Oar House on the pier). Museum and Gallery are small but have activities for all ages, Viking longboat at Collins's Barracks, good playground in St Stephen's Green. Lastly Phoenix Park is huge, has a zoo-small by UK standards.
My kids liked the tram as they's never been on one (called Luas, think not covered by passes)
See -the Spire on O'Connell Street.
For cheap kids clothes, look in Dunnes Stores. Have fun.

Botanic Gardens have a Bob Dylan exhibition on as well so I think we might give that a go!
