Lovely London hotels

I’m looking for hotel recommendations in central London. We will be going next summer as a treat for my daughter finishing school, myself, husband and 2 teens aged 16 and 14. I would like it to be luxurious and a little oasis away from the busy streets of London. Friendly staff would be a real bonus. A place called Sea Containers was recommended but it’s a bit out of our budget at £700 per night. Any ideas of a suitable place? Budget £500 per night absolute maximum, cheaper is better. Thanks very much for your help.

The Landmark is amazing not sure on rates.

There are lots of fabulous hotels but London rates are insane and can vary wildly as they operate revenue management so will depend how busy they are.

I also love The Berkeley, Como on Park Lane, 11 Cadogan Gardens, The Ned. Hoxton Shoreditch / Hoxton Holborn are very cool but maybe a bit buzzy to be an oasis. No idea what they would be in August though. Grosvenor House is incredible but that’s very popular with the huge numbers who evacuate the Middle East in the summer so likely to be too expensive.

Ok brilliant, thank you for all of those suggestions. I’ll take a look. Maybe I’ll have to adjust my budget and mindset, but it seems a waste when I’ll be out most of the time.

Unless you're planning on the hotel being a big part of the experience, I wouldn't bother with any of the upscale hotels. They've become mind-bendingly expensive. Check out holiday inn and travel lodge instead.

CitizenM are great modern options. But each room is one GIANT bed. So you'd have to have 2 rooms and either split the teens or trust them with a room together. Im not sure if they do connecting. They're fun though, good location and trendy for teens.

We loved The Standard at Kings Cross. We had a room overlooking St Pancreas Station. It’s quite buzzy and hip, the staff were lovely. Cool lift too.

Ok thanks. Both kids are autistic so I was aiming to get somewhere that would be nice to spend time if they didn’t feel able to go out but I can see that it is VERY expensive. Might have to rethink and go to a Premier Inn.

£500 per night, per room - or for all four of you?

At that budget you might be better off with an Airbnb - and then you have some shared social space too.

This is a great location and near the tube for travel out and about - plus lots of places of interest within walking distance. I know a couple of people who have stayed there:

My sister stayed here - it's not as expensive as some of the central London hotels but the rooms were lovely and great areas.

OP it sounds as if an ‘Aparthotel’ might suit you.

I just put random summer hol dates for 2036 into Booking.com and some lovely looking ones came up, well within budget.

FollowSpot · 30/08/2025 08:59

Are you coming by train?

Parking will add a whole layer of complexity and cost.

sunshinechaser · 30/08/2025 09:01

I’m not sure if you mean £500 per room or £500 for all of you. If it’s the former, the Marylebone hotel is lovely. It’s in a gorgeous quiet street in Marylebone but close enough to all amenities. Great shops and restaurants on Marylebone high street too.

TheP1per · 30/08/2025 09:26

Lots of great suggestions, thank
you. I did mean £500 per night for the 4 of us, only just realised that we might have to get 2 rooms due to kids age. We’ve always had family rooms before. That’s going to add a whole new dimension to holiday booking in the future
Also, yes travelling by train.
Never thought of aparthotels really, because I worry that I’ll book something that isn’t genuine, turn up and have nowhere to stay. Silly, I know. I’ll take a look at them too. Thank you.

You will can pay near £500 a night for 2 rooms at premier inn central London tbh, they are eye watering expensive for what they are.

MellowPinkDeer · 30/08/2025 09:48

The Hoxton ( both are pretty central )

soupmaker · 30/08/2025 09:53

The Premier Inn Tate Modern (Southwark) could work for your budget. Might be worth seeing if you can do Premier Plus rooms. It’s a great location and (when we stayed) quiet, but within 10 minutes walk you’re by the river.

TheP1per · 30/08/2025 10:04

It was looking at the Premier Inn Tate Modern that made me I realise we needed two rooms. It does look quite nice though.

St. Ermin’s Hotel in Westminster could be a great fit – family rooms, peaceful courtyard, and still central. The Marylebone is another nice option with a pool for teens, usually well under £500 if you book ahead.
