Best Spa Hotel for Romantic One Night Stay? Nirvana Spa/West Court?

ForeverTipsy · 19/08/2025 21:43

I'm looking to book something in next couple of weeks for Sept/Oct for our wedding anniversary.

We've previously enjoyed the Celtic Manor and Bowood, and I'm now looking at Nirvana Spa near Reading/Wokingham. Has anyone been here recently? Top end of my budget at £550, but includes everything I'm after:

  • one night stay
  • dinner, bed and breakfast (this one also includes a light lunch).
  • all day access to pool and spa facilities (some places only offer 1 - 3 hours, and I'd rather not be clock watching).
  • luxury feel

Only thing putting me off is that the hotel is a 10 mins shuttle bus away from spa. Might be a faff.

Anywhere 1hr ish from Swindon is preferable. Any recommendations please?

Are you open to going abroad? £550 for a one night stay at a UK spa is just insane. You would get flights, dinner, bed and breakfast, spa entry and treatments for that price in Italy: check out any of the QC Terme spas. There is one in Milan, several close to Milan like San Pellegrino. You get much more for your money.

If it has to be the UK then maybe Four Seasons in Hampshire? A room and spa entry should not cost more than £500. I mean, that’s just crazy.

I went to Nirvana Spa last week Wokingham, only for a day but it was absolutely beautiful and splendid. Pure luxury

Coffeeandcrochet · 19/08/2025 22:07

The spa at Nirvana is absolutely wonderful. I've never stayed at the hotel so can't comment on that but the spa is a great choice, I don't think you'd be disappointed!

ForeverTipsy · 19/08/2025 22:09

@Testerical no, don't want to go abroad. We will only have around 24hrs hence just wanting to drive for an hour.

£300 - £500 a night for a suite + 3-course dinner and breakfast at a 4* hotel with spa seems the standard really, and that's without treatments. I paid over £400 two years ago at the Cotswolds and have no regrets.

Will look at Four Seasons - thanks.

So jealous! I've only heard wonderful things. Can you have lunch there do you know? Or do you have to get the shuttle bus to West Court for that, too?

@Testerical Erm, The Four Seasons Hampshire STARTS at over £1k per night for bed & breakfast (no dinner) as it's 5*. Definitely out of budget!

I went to Nirvana Spa recently. Amazing. Literally knocked all other spas I've been to out of the park. I wouldn't worry about a 10 minute shuttle bus, it's worth it. Equally though, depending on where you live you could save yourself a few bob and just go to the spa for the day. They have a day pass with a 2 course lunch which is reasonably good value.

Thank you for this. Yes, that's the other option I've considered. Either coming home after (we get childcare for 24hrs) or booking a budget hotel nearby to go back to. I thought spa days with lunch packages were around £200 pp though, so £400. For an extra £150 we could stay in the luxury hotel there, have a 3-course evening meal + breakfast...

You can eat at Nirvana and the food is lovely. I’ve never stayed because I’m local so can’t comment on the hotel but the spa is totally worth it.

Testerical · 19/08/2025 22:47

I honestly cannot believe the current cost of the Four Seasons. Many apologies! I went there with a friend when my now teenager was a toddler and it was expensive but absolutely nowhere near £1k a night 😱. I think we paid the equivalent of around £200 each for the room abd spa entry. We bought food separately.

This Nirvana Spa place sounds like the winner.

If/when you have fewer constraints do look at EU spas though- they are phenomenal and knock all UK ones into a cocked hat.

Yiayoula · 19/08/2025 22:52

A couple nearer home for you : Calcot Manor
(Tetbury) and Lucknam Park ( Colerne ).

ForeverTipsy · 19/08/2025 22:54

No worries @Testerical - the gorgeous looking suites there are £3k a night ! How the other half live eh?

I would love to go to this spa in Bucharest one day; a friend went last year and raved about it:

@Yiayoula my friend stayed in Lucknam Park recently and raved about it. Sadly out of our price range, too. Rooms are around £900 - £1400 per night.

Will look at Calcot Manor, thanks.

ForeverTipsy · 19/08/2025 22:59

@Yiayoula Calcot Manor is from £769 per night and doesn't include dinner, but thanks.

@ForeverTipsy - aaaah, apologies !
I should have checked out the prices for a stay before posting- have visited both several times but not stayed overnight .

Testerical · 19/08/2025 23:06

Therme Bucuresti looks very similar to the amazing spa in my adopted hometown.

It costs €35 for a 4- hour entry. Treatments are from €30 and that isn’t even in Central Europe - it’s in Western Europe where salaries are much, much higher.

Anyway I hope you have a lovely spa day somewhere and don’t have to sell a kidney!

Testerical · 19/08/2025 23:08

Really shocked at Calcot as well. It used to be around 280-400 quid a night until very recently. That’s 100%+ markup. I don’t get it: is there still so much money swilling around that they can charge this and still turn a profit ?!?

Waitingforthesunshine24 · 20/08/2025 21:55

Yes you can have lunch at Nirvana

callfromthemountain · 20/08/2025 21:59

DD had a spa afternoon/evening there a couple of weeks ago and had a buffet type dinner which she really enjoyed too. Her MIL sorted it all though so I'm not sure of the details. They paid a little extra for some flotation tanks too which DD loved. I think they were there till about 10pm!

ForeverTipsy · 21/08/2025 01:01

Thanks everyone. Due to unforeseen circumstances (work on the Saturday) we can now only go for the day, not overnight.

I've definitely decided on Nirvana Spa, but don't know whether to go for the 3hr package at £85pp, or full-day with lunch package inc lunch at £200pp.

Any advice?

OP posts:
wheresmymojo · 21/08/2025 01:15

Go for the full day - there’s so much to do there that you can easily fill a full day even without treatments. Three hours won’t feel like enough…

Coffeeandcrochet · 21/08/2025 05:49

Completely agree, the full day will be totally worth it!

Personally I would pick the evening package. Don’t bother with the package that includes a facial unless you really want to be pampered while there.

JuneFromBethesda · 21/08/2025 08:18

I’m surprised by the rave reviews for Nirvana. I went there a few weeks ago and was a bit disappointed. The food was bland, service was average and the facilities were ok but didn’t feel luxury. I’d much prefer somewhere like Forest Mere or Cottonmill Spa where the surroundings are beautiful and feel genuinely luxurious.

ForeverTipsy · 21/08/2025 08:46

@JuneFromBethesda I've just had a look on Google Maps for those places and they're around a 2hr drive for us, so too far, but thanks.

Everyone who has been recently - would you recommend the celestial relaxation pool? Or individual pool pod? I'm going to book the full day experience so we can try out lots of the different pools and not be clock watching. Then we can come home and have a nice dinner out together locally.
