Sandy Balls- Anyone recently stayed in a Lodge there?

Were going for a week beginning of July, me, DH, DD1 (3) and DD2 (8mo). I'd be really grateful if anyone could give me any tips on what we need to take. Brochures a bit vague and DH did booking so of course asked aboslutely nothing!

Do they provide loo roll, cutlery, that sort of thing. Do we need to take towels. We've got a travel cot there for the baby.

Where's nice to go locally for us and DDs? Is the food ok on site or is there anywhere local that's better? Are kids activities available at the beginning of July?

Never been so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ladies.

No, but I drove past with my sister when I was 15, and we laughed a lot

ess · 29/05/2008 21:00

Why on earth would you laugh?

I went and stayed in a lodge but this was probably about 5 years ago.

Was lovely though, they provide basically what you'd get in a caravan, IIRC. So, cutlery, plates etc but think we took our own towels.

Have a fab time, I love it there!

Oh - just saw the bit about the food on site. The Italian restaurant was terrible, might have improved recently though.

Read somewhere else ther's a pub 10 minute walk away that serves nice food so may have to check it out. Good excuse for a glass of wine!

Hello, we've been there twice in the past 5 months.

What type of lodge have you booked?

We have always had cutlery and loo rolls provided. Do take your own towels unless you have booked superior lodge, where you would still need to bring swimming towels anyway.

There were kids activities on when we were there, and we went out of school holiday time.

They have a Bistro and Pub there (the Italian has been replaced by the Bistro, and the centre is now pedestrianised), the pub also does takeaway. We liked the Bistro. They also have bike hire. There is an indoor pool, and also a beauty salon. They have a Spar shop which stocks pretty much everything. For young children they have a great soft play area.

My top tip, when you get into your accommodation check whether your beds have mattress covers/protectors on, if not, hot foot it over to guest services to get some, let's just say that the beds are more bearable with covers on.

It is nice there, the staff are very friendly and helpful. If you need any information just email them.

I just can't believe a place is actually called Sandy Balls
Do they have another site called Gravelly Bottom

car25, we're staying in 6 berth lodge. Superior were all gone. Will take towels then . Thanks for tip about the beds. Are they that uncomfortable?!
Really looking forward to it. We've all had a rotten 6 months and could do with a real unwind.

The double bed isnt too bad. The mattesses on the singles have plastic surfaces so do need mattress covers, and the beds are narrow (for an adult anyway). You may want to request a bed guard for your 3 year old.
