Blackpool day trip?

Is Blackpool doable as a day trip from London? Has anyone done this? Is it worth it or too long?

😂🤷‍♀️

Blackpool - kids smaller kids yes, they have fun. Teenagers .. nah

My teens are autistic so not typical teens but thanks for the judgement! Wow never realised Blackpool was so controversial and not that it matters but we saw LOADS of teens at Margate last Saturday 🙄 so not all teens are “too cool” for the beach

I think I will look at October half term and staying over then but weather would probably be rubbish so not sure if it's worth it in the colder months? Have looked at camber sands and west wittering and although they look lovely I don't want anything that requires a bus as well as a train as that aren't near any stations, just want something close to a station though ds would love the bus and tram 😂

We have been the last three years in December for the illuminations. It's fun. Save your after dark time for actually doing the illuminations which you can do by a mixture of walking and tram. During the day the arcades are fun, Sealife Centre is good. We have enjoyed the pirate themed crazy golf. Look at the rides on the old fashioned trams as well as using the modern ones to get around!

😂😂 fair enough. They might love the manky old big dipper and grand national. With a side of grease and grime.

And the Big one ,And other new rides

A city break combining Blackpool / Manchester. That’s my idea of the worst city break ever.. All subjective of course!

Poor old Manchester! I think it’s a great city! Not too keen on Blackpool though!

Edited

I think a lot of teens do the cool act but secretly enjoy the beach and will dig if there is a younger child as an excuse.

We went for a few days a couple of years ago because DP was nostalgic for the holidays of her childhood.

And yeah, it's a bit grim. There's a lot of stag do's and hen parties about, so a decent number of drunken louts. Everythings tired and needs a lick of paint, and if you step off the beaten path and onto the back streets you may feel a bit nervous for your life.

But, the beach does the job, the Pleasure beach has a bunch of fun rides, there's plenty of stuff like Madam Tussauds to do, you can get a tram ride and you can get a decent fish and chips at the end of the day.

Yes, it's tired and run down, but if you can manage not to turn your nose up at it, then you can have a fun day out.

(I wouldn't be doing a 6 - 8 hour round trip for a day out anywhere though!)

Mate, you’re completely out of touch. That’s what’s funny 🤣…. well, it would be if it wasn’t interlaced with you getting your sad kicks taking the piss out of the OP and her kids.

Loads of teens love Blackpool and similar “cheesy” days out. The place is packed with them, especially the pleasure beach and the arcades.

Don’t listen to the snobs OP. You sound a lovely mum. Just stick to the front and the piers and you’ll have a fun day out

No sweetheart, that’s you judging me by your standards.

It's funny, but you're coming across like some mad Blackpool drunk picking a fight for no reason. You'd fit right in there, in the grim bits that we're advising OP to avoid. Maybe that's why you're unaware of the better bits that are good fun for many people who know how to enjoy themselves without pissing other people's chips, greasy or otherwise.

HermioneWeasley · 12/08/2025 16:22

It’s run down and the whole town smells of piss. You couldn’t pay me to go.

Exactly 😆

“No sweetheart” indeed. Maybe @Absentmindedsmilespends more time in the Velvet Coaster than she’d like people to know

😂😂🤷‍♀️ sorry if I’ve offended the locals

LongDistanceTravel · 12/08/2025 17:40

I wouldn't go to Blackpool, honestly it's so run down, with so many drugs. Go just a bit further, an hour more, and you're in The Lake District

Windermere train station, direct from Preston, close to the lake and Bowness, open top bus rides/ boat rides, loads to do

Sheknowsaboutme · 13/08/2025 12:10

Please don’t waste your time. Is an utter shithole.

Onthebusses · 13/08/2025 12:11

Yes, in Brighton

It has to be said that for theme park lovers Pleasure Beach with its old wooden rollercoasters alongside the newer bits is great fun , you simply don’t get those types of rides in many places .

While I agree the whole place is pretty grubby and run down and full of rubbish.
Its also rather full of people with MH or substance abuse issues and a close friend who is in Safeguarding warned me that there is a higher number of convicted child sex offender there than average

Where at the actual pleasure beach , which was all I was commenting about .

All around it, you can't parachute in.

tinyspiny · 13/08/2025 21:03

Only times I’ve been I’ve stayed , which was a fair while ago we’ve stayed at the Big Blue and only really done the Pleasure Beach and Sandcastle , so literally have just dropped in and gone very little distance .

This is true, as it is of many seaside towns. Surely everybody knows this?

But if the OP wants a beach and some tacky arcades for her kids to drop their 2ps in then she’ll have to go near a nonce or two most likely.
