Exciting things to do in London this summer for Teens

I actually live in London but wondered if anyone has seen anything that looks fun for teens who are reluctant to leave the house? I have 13 yo dd (who is strongly into anime and wearing black) and 17 year old ds (who is into his girlfriend) and would like to lure them out of the house with me from time to time!

Which bit of London are you in and do you mean to avoid the usual tourist spots?

Can explore different parts of london like Shoreditch, Camden etc? The street art, craft markets and food trucks are all worth a go? There is lot of specifically anime stuff going on - a few conventions, Japanese House and (just because its Ghibli) My Neighbour Totoro.

Maybe pick a country (out of a hat?) and track down a restaurant with that specialty cuisine to try? We have particularly liked Afghan and Ethiopian. We have also walked the Capital Ring (in chunks on different days!) which has taken us to new parts of the city.

Try these London ideas that might appeal to both:

Japan Centre or Camden Market – great for anime merch, snacks, and alternative fashion.

Hyper Japan Festival (if it’s on) – anime, cosplay, and J-culture.

Immersive experiences like Frameless, Outernet, or Dopamine Land – visually cool and Instagram-worthy.

Retro arcades like Four Quarters or Heart of Gaming.

Secret Cinema or Backyard Cinema – fun, themed film nights.

Thames Clipper ride to Greenwich – feels like an adventure but chill.

Bribery with bubble tea or ramen afterwards never hurts either!

Have a look at mystery guides. I have done a couple with my 12 year old and he loved it.

I walked past the Twist Museum the other day and saw parents with older kids going into it. Not sure if it’s any good, but I think it has optical illusions in it

My Neighbour Toto may be a good theatre choice

If they like gaming, Power Up at the Science Museum is great - a basement full of retro consoles and games they can play on.

The big Forbidden Planet in Covent Garden is a lot of fun to browse in.

There's also an anime-inspired ramen place in Great Russell st, called Uzumaki, handy if you're going to the British Museum.

My Neighbour Totoro is a fantastic show! Though pricey.

I took DC to this and they said it was a highlight of their life. They have had a very good interesting life. We do loads of stuff together. But live Totoro for Ghibli fans was a dream come true. I loved it too. It's the ultimate feel-good theatre show.

They also enjoyed the Shoreditch/Spitalfield street art tour run by a local artist. We saw amazing things we'd have walked right past, like tiny figures hidden in walls or behind drainpipes. Lots of amazing, cool art.
