I need recommendations on what I could do, travel, with then this long hols. I am working but can take sometime off. Any recommendations on short or day trips/ visits, things to do within UK preferably the kids would enjoy. Recommendations outside UK also good much welcome. Thank you

I don't know the South of England that well. Places that I enjoy that have lots of things that I think 7-10yr olds would enjoy are - Northumberland. Lots of castles and beautiful beaches. In particular Bamburgh and Alnwick. North Wales around Yr Wyddfa Snowdonia National Park. Go Ape type things and beaches at Llandudno and Conwy. Lake District all beautiful lakes, activities and walking up hillsides. Feel like these might all be a bit far away. Hope you have a great summer holiday!

A trip to Birmingham for Cadbury World, Legoland Discovery, Drayton Manor, ThinkTank and Warwick Castle.
Fossil hunting and body boarding on the Jurassic coast

train to York for a couple of nights

reluctantbrit · 22/07/2025 17:06

York is great at that age.

Norfolk coast. I second Wales but it's quite a trip for a long weekend.
Derbyshire if you are outdoorsy
Bath/Sailsbury/Stonehenge

We did plenty of city breaks with DD at these ages but she is a big history nerd and we love museums, castles, historic places.

The New Forest and nearby is good.

GoodVibesOnly21 · 22/07/2025 17:38

Warwick Castle is fun.

Digger Land in Kent

I know you said U.K. but I would also consider Normandy, so much for this age, mine really enjoyed it. They were very interested in the d day museums, the American cemetery was something that everyone needs to see, the vastness, they took poppies to lay on British graves from our parish, then there’s bayeaux, great audio tour, musee de caen, but then there’s the food, low alcohol cider they let kids drink, beautiful beaches, and don’t forget the fun of the overnight ferry into Caen from Portsmouth. They are grown now and cite it as their favourite trip

North Wales has it all Mountains moorland, Beaches
Loads to see and do its compact so not far to the next adventure.
Something for all budgets
Base your self around Conwy, Llandudno area.
Remember Chester and Liverpool are well worth a day each whilst in the area.

Iow, Osborne House. stay over for a couple of nights. They’re roll old for Digger Land
Dover Castle
London - Tower of London, Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast. I would bother with the ‘big’ museums, they’ll be hideously busy
South Coast. Broadstairs, Herne Bay etc

going further my kids love Belfast, Titanic Museum and Dublin, any of that coastline.
