Where is our summer gone? Packing hoodies and raincoats rather than my lovely white dresses and trying to stay positive in front of my children. Plans to visit on Monday: North Devon, Lynton - Lynmouth, Lorna Doone valley on Monday. We will be staying near Bude and explore Polzeath, Rock and beaches nearby. I can’t imagine exploring in the rain. Please give me hope

I'm sorry to hear the forecast isn't looking good.

I know it's hard but keep in mind that forecasts can be wrong and can also change.

I would pack for both rain and sunshine, so you have covered all bases.

Cornwall is amazing- we go at the start of August, and even if you get some rain, you will be still be able to get out and see things. It likely wouldn't rain all day, every day.

I would look up some indoor attractions you can visit if there is a downpour. Then, depending on the weather you can do some exploring outside, plus an indoor activity if needed.

What accommodation are you staying in? If a caravan on a site, there will most likely be facilities you can use e.g. a pool.

It's rubbish when the weather isn't what you hoped but I think if you plan carefully, you'll have a good time whatever.

It will possibly change, we went away last Sunday, got back Friday when we set out the forecast was for rain most days, as it turned out we only had one drizzly day which we used to explore one of the big towns and do indoor tours and activities. I’ve come home with a tshirt shaped tan and we spent loads of time on the beach.

I'm in the same boat - currently staying on the south west coast after a 5 hour journey.

Ive been on chatgpt for rainy day itinerary suggestions.

Don’t panic just yet, as others have said the weather can be v changeable, especially by the coast. We’re just back from a week away and while it rained most days, it didn’t rain all day every day so we still got out and about, just had to move things around a bit some days.

If you are going to Padstow, there is rain one day next week (met office forecast).

Magnir · 20/07/2025 09:20

it doesn't look too bad, just a bit showery at times, quite a bit of fine in between, probably not sitting on beach all day and white dress weather but certainly not a washout

I hope so 🤞It’s typical when you’re working it’s glorious weather and when you’re off to holiday it rains.

Not sure how old your children are - but if things are dire there is a brilliant big soft play and trampoline park in Newquay. And if it’s wet on and off then I recommend Lappa Valley - got a miniature railway and play parks etc but also a soft play to escape rain when it hits. A lot of the holiday parks with indoor pools you can book in for a session even if not staying there (had my fair share of wet holidays in Cornwall!)
a bit further down but Maritime Museum in Falmouth was good even for my toddler! Good luck!

I live in North Devon and last week the forecast for this weekend was for 80%+ chance of rain all weekend and we've had about 10 minutes today and thats been it. The forecast seems to be changing by the hour at the moment so you may still be in luck.

It’s Cornwall, you’ll get all the seasons in one day Grin

layers! And the thinnest raincoat/cagoule you have.
