Can anyone suggest a location for a short break (probably 2 nights) that would be suitable for my 2 teenage ds and my mum in her 70s. And me, sandwiched in the middle.

Boys love football, history, food. Actually we all like those things!

things that have worked well in the past include

bletchley park
Churchill war rooms
albert dock, anfield, museums and ferry etc
Manchester - football museum and rhs bridgewater

wouod be grateful for any ideas!

Bristol - I'm thinking for the food

Newcastle - lots of lovely places, football stadium and just surprisingly lovely when we went with DS

if you live near Newcastle then train to Edinburgh......BUT it's approaching festival season so I wouldn't go in August as accommodation prices are ££££ and it's packed!

Ah thanks, thinking about going later in the autumn so not in August. I know Edinburgh very well and lived there for a number of years. I love it but feel I’ve done most of the major attractions many times and so have boys and my mum. Unless there is anything less well known or new they would like?

What about Glasgow if you’ve done Edinburgh a few times? Or if you’re willing to get on a plane, Belfast is a great city break IMO.

York, Whitby?
Liverpool has more stuff to see and plenty of food choices, Lark Lane, Bold street are very popular as is the Baltic market.
