Move to Edinburgh 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Could anyone give me any idea on areas near Edinburgh, we ideally would like to be no longer than a 40 minute drive. We have 3 children (2 SEN) so good schools are essential. We don’t want to be in the middle of nowhere but outside a town or village near a town would be fine! Thank you all 😁

40min drive to where? There’s a big difference in travel time even from one end of princes street to the other at rush hour! 40min on a week day if it’s for a commute is very different to 40min at rush hour in the week.
whats your budget for housing as that’ll be a big influencer,

Peebles is lovely. Don’t know about the schools and might be slightly over 40 mins to Edinburgh. It totally depends on what part of Edinburgh you are talking about

Rubbish for SEN though

Do you want to move to Edinburgh or near Edinburgh? Big difference, especially in terms of what you'll get for your money.
Have you ever been to Edinburgh before?

You will probably get more responses posting on Scotsnet.

Dunfermline is a small city, driving time to various parts of Edinburgh vary from 40 mins to 90mins and there are also good transport links.

It's a good family friendly place to live and the schools are fine.

Other towns in South West Fife include Dalgety Bay, Aberdour and Burntisland.

You've probably got lots of info from Scotsnet now but just thought I'd share our experience, which was after lots of conversations with parents in Edinburgh and the various education teams we decided against moving there with our children with SEN, just because the SEN provision we needed really didn't seem to exist in the form we needed it - or was so very oversubscribed our chances of accessing it felt too slim. We moved to over the border instead and do a commute (one of us). So I'd suggest some similar conversations if your children have any sort of significant need to find out exactly what's available. It was really frustrating as we were so keen to live there, but it felt like the best choice for us. (I should say we also ruled out some parts of England for capacity reasons but the system and offerings in Scotland really are different.)
