Christmas Markets in UK - where and accommodation

I am wanting to do a Christmas Market for a weekend in late November. I have never done one before. I don't really want to pay more than £200 for accommodation as we will need travel and expenses for when we are there and its a lot to spend just before Christmas. It's just for me and DH, so want to visit markets, grab some food and have a good drink.

I have looked at Edinburgh & York and v expensive for hotel accommodation. Can anyone recommend good, reasonable priced accommodation in this area - or another Christmas market anywhere north kind of past Manchester?

We are just looking for somewhere not too busy, some stalls, atomsphere and some good pubs

Christmas Markets are busy, it's just the nature of these things.

I personally liked Bath but I can understand the critism as well. We booked our hotel in March 3 years ago and it was £250/night. A friend went each year and she said that even a Travellodge is around £200, they definitely push up the prices.

If you can, go mid-week, even the ones abroad will be heaving at weekends, I am from Germany and have done my share of various ones and all are busy.

Winchester has a good reputation but I can't comment as when we went last year, for Longleat and Winchester Christmas market both closed due to the big storm that arrived that weekend. To be honest it's put me off booking anything that time of year again as we just seem to be getting more and more extreme weather.

Winchester Christmas market is lovely set in the Cathedral close. There is loads of good accommodation around Winchester.

We have booked our caravan in at Chatsworth in November, I'm hoping that the market is good, we had to book the pitch last November as they go so quick. Glad to hear good reports on this thread

More genuine feel about it!

All Christmas Markets look the same, selling the same stuff from the generic sheds etc
