Looking to book dinner & 1 night at Le Manoir for DH’s 50th. We’re a couple of hours away so would like to book somewhere the night before- does anyone have any recommendations? Would like somewhere that is a bit more relaxed- thought about 2 nights at Le Manoir but don’t think we could manage 2 nights of 7 course dinners in a row! Preferably somewhere not much more west of Le Manoir as we’re coming from the other direction.

Aw my late DH took me to Le Manoir for a weekend as a surprise for my 40th! Amazing. It was truly unforgettable. No other recommendations but you are in for a treat!

Crazy Bear is AWFUL, don't go there!

I don't know where you're coming from but if it's from West of Le Manoir I recommend The Double Red Duke or if from nearer London The Grove near Watford, I've been to both recently and they were great.

SIL stayed at the prison in Oxford and took a taxi to the Manoir. She’s a High earner and loves food but I think the rooms were about £1k/night and it was a bit too much even for her.

Go for the whole overnight stay at Le Manoir, it’s fantastic. They cater for your every need, even those you didn’t know you needed!
The food and wines are amazing. Even breakfast is phenomenal.

I think staying over, if you can afford it, would be lovely. The house and gardens are lovely, the staff are nice, the food is beautiful.

They are staying, they want somewhere for the night before their night at Le Manoir I think

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will be coming from Essex & would want somewhere for a Friday night & then Saturday at Le Manoir. Like the look of both The Double Red Duke and The Grove. Don’t normally spend this much on a hotel stay- this is definitely a splurge.

Have a fabulous time spoiling yourselves.

In fact my Aunt lives just along from The Double Red Duke so if you choose that as well you’ll have a great time there as well.

@nicemarmot We have stayed at Le Manor twice, the second time was for two nights.

It is a fabulous place and honestly not stuffy at all, in the dining room or anywhere, so you would be relaxed I am sure.

Also you do not have to eat 7 courses! Our first night we had the many course tasting menu ( each course is very small and even though I have a small appetite I managed), but the second night we went a la carte and just had 3 courses. It was still a fantastic meal.

I live near Le Manoir. If you want super chilled Bucolic break then you could try The Pointer in Brill. They have nice rooms. On the alternative night you could eat The Pheasant it has good food and a wonderful view. Or stay in Thame, at the Spread Eagle and have a good dinner at the Pub The Thatch. Or yes Oxford has plenty of decent hotels.
