Premier inn for London sightseeing

Hello! We are looking to take our 2 children (11 and 8) to London for a couple of nights in the summer holidays to see all the main tourist sights- Buckingham palace, Tower of London etc. We will probably book a premier inn but there are so many! Can anyone recommend one that is in a good location for sightseeing? Obviously happy
to travel around by tube etc but would be good to be based in a convenient location. Thanks!

Think there are two very close to London Eye, County Hall and Westminster Bridge. You can then get the boat down the Thames to Tower of London (there is hop on and off option, bit like using the tube but more scenic!)

I like the location of the one near Borough Market.

There's a nice in lovely surroundings at Bank.

There's a great one at Archway. Both are not a crazy distance from central and I've found them a lot cheaper particularly if booked ahead.

We stayed at the Premier Inn Paddington as we travel in by train. It is convenient for dropping off our luggage without having to travel far. It is an easy walk over to Hyde Park and all the touristy things we like to do but also well connected for the underground when the kids get tired.

If you're getting the train to London, the easy answer is whichever premier is closest to the arrival station. Euston Road/King's Cross are great locations if often pricey.

However, my personal favourite (as well as being great value in price) is Westferry. The DLR is literally right outside the door, I am not joking, and from there you can either go to Bank and explore the area or change to the District line for main tourist attractions or go to Tower Gateway where you'll get a breathtaking view of the Tower as you come round the corner to it, especially at night. We also got a cracking view of the 02 arena from our hotel room.

Near your train station is a good call. Which one do you arrive at? The only caveat I have is that the one nearest Euston is often noisy overnight because of the fire station nearby.

Both the Premier Inn and the Hub near Kings Cross are good; there’s Coal Drops Yard nearby for messing about, for example.

Any of them fairly central would be fine - there’s so much to do in each area of London that it’s hard to make a bad choice.

We're staying at the PI in Greenwich next week. Lots to do around there and good transport links.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 26/06/2025 12:57

We like the one in Islington and we used to stay at the one in Tottenham Hale when the kids were really young and we drive there from Yorkshire, parked and then tubed wherever we wanted to get to.

CoastalCalm · 26/06/2025 12:58

We used to stay at Euston but have switched to Covent Garden Travelodge on recent trips as can walk everywhere

London City (Tower Hill) on Prescot street is always my go to premier inn. Off the main tourist traps but is 5 mins walk to Tower of London and has all the main tube stations and the DLR on the door step

kings cross and Euston can be handy for luggage but are a lot more busy and have a lot of people hanging round them

Thank you everyone for these suggestions I will have a look into them all! Will most likely get the train, so arriving at either Waterloo or Paddington.

If you’re arriving at Waterloo then the County Hall Premier Inn is in a great location, but can be pricy.

I like this one too.

Whatwouldnanado · 26/06/2025 17:18

Westminster. Right next to Waterloo, across from the london eye etc and easy trip back from the theatre district after shows at night. Have fun.

BellevueRDV · 26/06/2025 17:28

We had a trip to London early in the year and were planning to stay in the Premier Inn in Southwark as it’s often recommended on here. We end up staying in the Hampton by Hilton which is five minutes walk from Waterloo, and the rate included breakfast and was cheaper than the Premier Inn. Room and service was lovely.

Caspianberg · 26/06/2025 17:28

If arriving at Waterloo use the country hall premier inn. It’s literally opposite Waterloo station and next to London eye.

otherwise if you can get a good deal there’s a great hotel for families next to Tower of London. I think it’s blue orchid by Marriott. It is small hotel apartments so you have more space. It’s worked out cheaper than premier in before when three of us stayed

Wetcappuccino · 26/06/2025 17:49

I don’t have personal experience but I have heard the Premier Inn at Southwark is good and well placed for the tube. I would recommend joining the London with Kids Facebook group for good tips.

Definitely have a look at chains other than PI, don’t get me wrong I love a PI, but they have shot up in price.
