Best Liverpool Beatles tour with kids

Hello,

we are hoping to have a day in Liverpool in August and would love to do a Beatles tour.

Two kids, ages 9 and 6.

Can anybody recommend a kid friendly tour?

We are visiting family a couple of hours away from Liverpool and keen to visit Liverpool for a day, possibly with an overnight, so any recommendations of the best place to stay to pack in as much as we can would be gratefully received!

Merci beaucoup!

I am local so have never done the Beatles tour. I would look at reviews some Taxi drivers also do them, you can drive the route yourself. Penny Lane for example is near Sefton park and Lark Lane which is good for food.

Mad Days Out Taxi tours with Ian Doyle. My son was 8 when we took him and he was a huge Beatles fan (the sole reason for the trip to Liverpool) and Ian was fantastic at tailoring the trip for him.

Also, we’ve stayed at the Aparthotel which great for self catering and in the city centre. Best hotel we stayed at for our Beatles fan though has to be the Hard Days Night Hotel, but it can be pricey.

The Beatles Museum at the Albert Dock is also worth a visit. The National Trust do visits to both Paul McCartney and John Lennon's houses and you can go in. You will need to book though.

We had a family room in the Premier inn in Liverpool one ( Hanoverian Street) very central to pop back to. Arrived Friday evening had a wander round.
Sat morning we walked round the Baltic Triangle looking at street art and the Quirky Corner, an amazing place full optical tricks and illusions with great friendly staff.
Quick lunch then Gravity Max with so many VR games and rides.
Pizza for dinner then theatre.
Next morning headed to Albert Docks and really good hot chocolate and buns. Dd and GGd hit shops while DGS and I did boat trip and more cake then back to airport!

Sorry I know your main question was about Beatles’ stuff but we all enjoyed the things we did.

We went last year and stayed at staycity apartments right in the city centre near Albert docks.
My kids who were 9, 7 and 3 at the time of visiting loved the Beatles Story experience which is ob the docks. Quite interactive and a good collection of memorabilia

Hi! 👋 We’ve done Liverpool with kids and it’s fab — especially if you’re Beatles fans.

🎟️ Option 1: Day Trip (Simple + Kid-Friendly)
If you’ve only got a day, I’d go for:

The Beatles Story (at Albert Dock) — hands-on, audio guide for kids, plus a fun Fab4 Café. Indoors and manageable in 1–2 hours.

A walk around the docks, maybe grab lunch at the Dockside Dining Club or a treat from an ice cream van.

If time allows: quick stop at the Beatles statue by the waterfront for a photo.

It’s relaxed, central, and still feels like you’ve soaked up the Beatles spirit.

🛏️ Option 2: With Overnight Stay
If you decide to stay:

Add the Magical Mystery Tour (bus tour past childhood homes, Penny Lane, Strawberry Field) — about 2 hours but nicely paced and comfy.

Or visit Strawberry Field visitor centre — quiet garden space + cafe and Beatles exhibition.

Stay near the docks or at the Premier Inn Liverpool One — very walkable.

Let yourself do as much or as little as you feel up to. Liverpool’s compact enough to enjoy without rushing. 🎶

The rooms in the Ibis styles on Dale street are all Beatles themed.

Non Beatles things we’ve enjoyed on our last couple of visits - Quirky Quarter, as PP said there are loads of optical illusions and really clever things to trick your eyes and brain including a mirrored maze which was mind blowing! Brilliant fun for children and adults. Also enjoyed Williamsons tunnels, they’re fascinating. Loads of things to do in Liverpool and it’s a relatively small city so easy to get around. Open top bus tour also great.
