Caerphilly/Llantrisant

We are thinking about moving to the South Wales area to be closer to family. It's just me and my 16 year old son and we are looking to buy a property however our budget is around 200k so I know anywhere decent in Cardiff won't be possible which is fine.
My brother lives in Senghenydd in Caerphilly so I have been looking into this area.
I've also seen Llantrisant is supposed to be nice too.
Can I have views on both areas, specifically views on the teens in the area, is there a lot of trouble with them? I'm worried that my son is going to get dragged in with the wrong crowd and get into trouble.
Thanks everyone xx

I don’t know much about Llantrisant. Caerphilly is good commuting distance for Cardiff with regards to jobs - train links are good too. Sengenhydd is very much on the outskirts of Caerphilly town and the secondary school is ok I think. St Martins school has a fairly good reputation and is in the centre of Caerphilly. The further north in the borough of Caerphilly the more deprivation and poverty you will encounter sadly…. But sometimes the countryside in these areas can be really beautiful too. Some of the smaller villages to the south of the town are really nice. If your son is going to be going to high school in the area you would want to look at the Iestyn reports. Hope that helps x

LolaCrapola thank you 😊, my son has finished school now so don't need to look at schools, he's hoping to get a job. Very helpful to look at the south of caerphilly though so thank you xx

I live about 2 miles from Llantrisant.

it’s a lovely area but transport links are poor (no trains, hardly any bus service) and not that much for kids to do. There’s not much crime though, although a couple of local pubs have been turned into halfway houses and so the odd anti social behaviour happens.

We’ve been here 20 years, have a teenager who has attended local (Welsh medium) schools and are pretty happy.

If you're looking at Llantrisant. Just down the road about 2 miles is Pontyclun, this is a much better area. There is a great English speaking comprehensive school and a lovely friendly, bustling village. With a direct train link to Cardiff

Unless your kids have any sort of additional needs.

And the trains are very infrequent (and unreliable).

It’s a nice area though.
