UK holiday park

HairyToity · 04/06/2025 11:53

I want a holiday park within 3 hours of Chester, can be by a lake or sea. It should have beautiful views and not be too busy.

Previously enjoyed Away Resorts Barmouth Bay, Dylan Coastal Resort, White Cross Bay and Barend Holiday Lodges.

DH has been very poorly, including a number of extended hospital stays, and so don't want to travel more than 3 hours.

I'm going round in circles. Anyone have any pointers? We have a 13 and 7 year old.

Thank you.

3.5 hours would probably be okay. Have looked at Kielder Waterside but it's a reservoir and no good as kids would want to swim / paddle board in the lake.

Aberdovey hillside village

HairyToity · 04/06/2025 13:23

That is a good call. Love Aberdovey. Never been to Hillside Village mind. I think the kids would complain as been so many times in the past for short breaks. Aberdovey is a favourite with my parents and they've sometimes joined us.

The Beach Holiday Park at Llandalus

HairyToity · 04/06/2025 17:34

Gawd, I am difficult to please, The Beach Holiday Park is too close to the A55 for me. Nice part of the world though!

What about one of the Yorkshire coast ones? We’ve been to both primrose valley and Reighton sands. PV is bigger and therefore busier but does have a lot of activities for kids if that’s what you’re after?

Both have direct access to a beach, near to Filey, Scarborough, and Bridlington.

Never done a Haven before, tempted by Reighton Sands for being smaller. A bit of a trek but a possibility. Never been to Filey or Scarborough.

We did Middlewood Farm Holiday Park one year, by Robins Hood Bay, which we loved. DH has his health then and we didn't mind the walk to the beach. I see Reighton Sands has direct beach access, which is better.

Haven Hafan y mor on the Llyn Peninsular
https://www.haven.com/parks/north-wales/hafan-y-mor
Not just for the park but its location.
You can make the journey an adventure by stopping at Llandegla Fishery ( kids can have a lesson) Llangollen, Bala Lake , Barmouth on the way or make it a quick journey down the A55 and Canaerfon bypass
Some very nice places nearby some busy many tranquil
Criccieth Like stepping back in time in a good way
Abersoch Nice to see but not our cup tea, nice to get a Pizza and see the boats coming in and out in the evening.
TyCoch Inn Pub on the beach ( If hubby can manage the 20 minute walk)
Trefor A small Tranquil place never busy with a local ran coffee shop shop in container on the beach, great for just sitting of fishing
This Cafe In Pwllheli is fantastic best to book and remember to take a cake home they are some of the best we have had. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g552013-d24800931-Reviews-Caffi_Largo-Pwllheli_Gwynedd_North_Wales_Wales.html

Llanbedrog is a nice beach with a good cafe on it, not been since new owners took over but not heard any bad check reviews

I agree Llyn Peninsula is fabulous. We've done it lots though. We've previously had holiday lets in Criccieth, Llanbedrog and Morfa Nefyn.

As a kid my aunt and uncle had a chalet at the Warren (Abersoch), and we used to stay regularly.

Hafan y Mor has never appealed (too big for my liking). I prefer smaller holiday parks.

I grew up in Llangollen, and my parents still live there.

I know I'm hard to please. Thank you all for trying.

What about going to Barmouth and travelling down the coast? Or Whitby area?

HairyToity · 06/06/2025 19:36

I have wondered about Whitby. We stayed at a holiday park in Robin Hood Bay during COVID and visited for the day.

We've been to Away Resorts at Barmouth Bay a couple of times, and always enjoy it. Just fancying somewhere different this year.

Not holidayed in Anglesey before. Although been to Plas Newydd and Cemlyn Bay to see the terns for days out.

Looked at The Gower, as it isn't an area we've explored, but can't find a holiday park that appeals.

Holidays were so much easier when DH had his health! I'm wanting a holiday park as if he's unwell there will be activities on site for children.

@fun can't travel down coast, stay in different places, as DH has a lot of medical equipment and setting it up is time-consuming. He doesn't travel light.

Have a look lots of little places to stay park dean have a site at Borth must be others. It’s a challenge to keep the children busy. We like the Whitby area but only been a handful of time mostly for the kids to surf

Sosigsandwich · 06/06/2025 20:13

How about Fallbarrow in Bowness? We stay at least once a year and absolutely love it.

HairyToity · 07/06/2025 07:23

We've got the train to Borth from Aberdyfi. I fancy a change from Llyn Peninsula, Mid Wales Coast, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. Would be happy with a holiday park in Anglesey or Gower. I know I'm fussy. DH is originally from Oswestry and as we've both lived all our lives by the border, we've been to the Welsh coast lots.

Falbarrow looks fab. We've stayed at White Cross Bay nearby, a couple of times. My concern is when we've done Lake District before DH had his health and we did lots of walking. I don't know whether going there now would be triggering as less we can do. He does get down over it.
