Hi all! Trying to plan ahead for our holiday to Portpatrick in summer.. is Glasgow dog friendly? Nicest placest to eat with good veggie and meat options that accepts dogs? Any other things to do suitable to take dogs? Thanks 😊

Portpatrick is fairly far away from Glasgow

Yeah its a bit of a trek from Portpatrick to Glasgow, what/how long are your plans in Portpatrick?

Glasgow is a pretty big city so plenty of dog friendly things to do...

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 27/05/2025 20:26

Google says 2 hours 20 mins, which I can live with!

Yep Portpatrick and Glasgow not very close at all! Travel able, but not daily, or with dogs!

Well, this is it. I'm trying to find things to do this time around as we went last year and were pretty disappointed with Stranraer and anything nearby! Just making a book of things to do 🫣

We only want to do it on one of the days!

Yes, it’s more than a two hour drive. It has lots of parks including the Botanic Gardens. St Luke’s is a nice, dog friendly bar/restaurant which does have veggie options.

Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate · 27/05/2025 20:34

How long is the drive? Google currently says 2 hours 8 minutes and last time I looked said 2 hours 20 mins! We dont mind a drive, won't ever holiday in Glasgow itself and all of us who are going are happy to do the drive!

I did see about St Lukes but couldn't find a menu on their Instagram!

Put of curiosity, if youve been before and been disappointed with the surrounding area, why are you going back?

Have a look at things to do along the Ayrshire coast, head into Troon, visit Culzean castle, and other things along that way. Nice beaches and coastlines, and Troon is a lovely town, about an hour and a half away.

Because Portpatrick itself is lovely, even if there is nothing to do there, and because we are going with family who are going there. They thought they'd booked lifeboat week but turns out they hadn't. We have all said that next year we will go elsewhere but this year want to make the most of it.

I agree with going up the Ayrshire coast. Have you ever been to Largs? Lovely art deco ice cream parlour (not dog friendly inside, but outside seats/carry out available), miniature golf, quick ferry over to Millport for a cycle or walk. Ayr for Robert Burn’s house (someone wait outside with dog?)!
I imagine there are plenty of restaurants and - parks? that are dog friendly in Glasgow but it’s a long drive for a meal or a walk. More specific things like museums or galleries won’t be dog friendly.
