Which area hotel or apartments are best to stay in if they have availability (central/safeish area) for two nights? Thinking maybe Premier Inn or similar or apartment budget wise with one large double bed and two single beds.

Also for this summer would you recommend Abba Voyage, Mamma Mia, Elvis if we can get tickets and perhaps something cheaper like Moulin Rouge and or I read somewhere something about a Titanic experience. Or have any other recommendations? Perhaps a wander to Convent Garden, Camden Market or Nottinghill?

We found King's Cross quite a good area, it's walkable to interesting parts - Coal's Drop Yard has some interesting places to eat (Dishoom) etc. Waterloo is also a good place to stay too.

But maybe plan what you are gong to see first and then look for accomodation on good transport links for it. So if it's the museums you might be better off that side of town.

We took DSD to see Abba Voyage with her boyfriend (they are 25 ish) and they were in the younger end of the crowd there but really enjoyed it. It was good fun.

We also took them to Book of Mormon (lot of rudeness and very funny).

Thanks its a celebration for us and our adult DC are younger than yours @BigDahliaFan so maybe need to re think it. As I wanted something I want to do that we would all like.

Premier inn St Pancras is a good location, we get the train to Euston which is walking distance so can go and drop luggage off first. It is on a Main Street too with restaurants and convenient for a few different tube lines and buses.
Went to Sky Garden last time I was in London which was lovely, I also love a wonder around the national gallery

ABBA Voyage is excellent. If they are fans of Stranger Things they will enjoy the stage play prequel. Cocktails in the Shard for views / insta worthy pics. Putt Shack quite cool. Greenwich market nicer than Camden, get an Uber Boat. Climbing the O2 “tent” is great fun.

Kings Cross is a good base - there’s a main Premier Inn and a Premier Inn hub which is a bit funkier. Young adults will enjoy Camden and that’s very easy to get to from Kings Cross. The Standard Hotel is very cool and has a great bar and restaurants (DJ at the weekends). You can just pop in for a drink even if you’re not staying there. Also the Duck and Waffle has great views and is open 24 hours. Or Sketch for the ‘gram.

Theatre shows like Hamilton, Six or even Matilda might suit. We also loved Operation Mincemeat - it’s a bit different. The shows you’ve listed will appeal to a slightly older crowd I think but I’m sure would be enjoyable. Today’s Tix app has ‘rush’ tickets where you can get cheap tickets. Abba Voyage is for the fans really but is meant to be a spectacle - it’s expensive.

Our DS's have loved the Comedy Store just off Leicester Square. Live comedians, can be a bit rude depending on who you get but generally a really good standard. You would be best to buy tickets and arrive early so that you don't get stuck with the front row!

I would stay nearer to Covent Garden than Kings Cross, but that's a personal choice.

Borough Market or Spitalfields Markets are good to browse. Or Camden market.

@user2848502016will check that out. Thanks neither of mine are insta posers and one doesn’t drink. None of us watched Stranger Things. I really like the sound of the Sky Garden and cocktails, seeing a show and having a mouch around London which is a long way and a far cry and contrast from where we live.

My dc loved abba voyage and mamma Mia when late teens early 20’s. Also loved Six, Come from Away, Cabaret (did prep on story), Dear Evan Hansen (I didn’t enjoy that though), Waitress, most recently Operation Mincemeat but been going 1-2 times a year since dd2 was 4 so have seen many of the long runners too, I just tend to avoid jukebox musicals with the exception of mama Mia.

Rather than mooching, and if it is a first time, the Hop on/off bus is really worthwhile as it will take you to all the places you might want to see/visit without having to think about tube/bus routes etc

Premier inn have a max 2 adults to a room.

Ayeayeaye25 · 31/05/2025 08:57

Thanks have done London before with them
when they were junior school age but we had a family dog so city breaks were off the cards.

We liked the Spitalfields area for a weekend with DSD - the market is great and it is close to Liverpool Street station so easily accessible all around. We stayed at Batty Langley’s, which is a modern hotel decorated to imitate a Georgian style - it was a special occasion so spent a bit more on the hotel than usual, but in fact the cost of the rooms wasn’t far off the rubbishy little Premier Inn on Brick Lane. We’ve also stayed in the Premier Inn at Bankside near to Tate Modern and that was a good base - a bit more space in the rooms for the money and all the bars and restaurants along Southbank easily walkable.

JassyRadlett · 31/05/2025 14:38

Another good Premier Inn is on the South Bank at County Hall - easy access to lots of things including a walk to Borough Market etc.

I love Greenwich and definitely recommend the boat trip there for being able to see lots of London from the river - would get a city cuises one or similar rather than Uber boat if you want to enjoy the views.

For shows - people are raving about the Comedy about Spies which is the latest from the Play That Goes Wrong people. I do love Operation Mincemeat, and shows like Legally Blonde or Clueless might also appeal.

JassyRadlett · 31/05/2025 14:40

What station are you coming into? Would always recommend basing yourself near to where you need to leave from if possible/desirable or at least an easy journey away.
