Loch Lomond - August or April?

For those who live there or nearby, would August or April be the best time to visit Loch Lomond weather wise (I’m bound by school holidays).
I’d originally thought to book to go in August but from what I’ve read April looks like the driest month and there’s a higher chance of rain in August, so would April be a better time to go?
Im also concerned about the midges in August - how much of a problem are they?

@Bythesea1982 - eldest and the mountain biking.
By bike park, do you mean the small set of drops and trails in the play park area at the edge of Aberfoyle?
Or do you mean the hills behind with a bunch of trails on trailforks? If the latter, I'm assuming he is a good rider used to difficult red and black level+ trails, decent bike and protection? I've ridden them a lot with my son's, and I still walk some parts and will not ride some of the others...it's properly up there as some of the most difficult trails anywhere in UK...

The easier, gravel and family rides around 'Gravelfoyle' are superb - www.gravelfoyle.com/

@outdooryone I’d completely forgotten to thank you again for all your help. Thanks for the link to the family bike rides which will suit my youngest child. My eldest child is a strong mountain biker with a top end bike, regularly goes on difficult red routes where we live and is fully kitted out eg full face helmet, chest pads etc.
Can I ask you about open water swimming and where’s good to do this? I think Luss has been mentioned but looks like we’re an hour away from there so wondered if there might be anywhere closer to Aberfoyle?

There's loads of places to swim near Aberfoyle - Loch Ard village hall is the usual, and there's a bay on the way that many swim in with parking for 4 cars. Ard is a shallow, warm loch by Scottish standards. You can also swim in Venechar, Katrine at Stronochlalar, Lomond, Chon, Archray and more... Basically if the map shows water and a road, there's likely parking and a spot. Two exceptions - Balmaha and Katrine Pier due to all the boats.

@outdooryone That’s wonderful. Have made a note of this. Thank you.
