Please help! Have to return to uk for two weeks

been living abroad for a few months and now need to return for two weeks in the summer to sort some paperwork out and struggling to find ‘cheap’ accommodation for 2 adults with one 12yo and a kitchen. Dc has allergies so really need a kitchen as it’s so much easier than eating out.

everything is out of budget ideally around £100 pn but I get that’s probably not realistic so open to suggestions costing more. Anywhere in uk is fine but closer to the south would be better. Thank you!

How about a family room in a youth hostel??

MiddleAgedDread · 20/05/2025 08:02

Go on Airbnb and do an “anywhere” search for your dates. £100 a night should be achievable if you go off the beaten track a bit.

Assuming you have a home wherever you live, look at www.homeexchange.com. It will be particularly easy if you are in an area that is desirable for people from the UK.

Agree - I've just done this for 2 weeks end of July to early August and there are quite a few options in the south. Are you flexible or fixed on dates?

Family room in youth hostel.
Tent in nice caravan park.
Lookup house sitting. (Do you like dogs?)
Old fashioned motel.

Log into Googe Maps and punch in - Accommodation near Hampshire. Slide the money to under 100 per night and see what pops up. For example Travel Lodge Alton is one option of many hundreds.

Are you constrained by location if you’ve got paperwork to sort out?
If you can't find 2 weeks in one property, try splitting your stay into shorter blocks of time. A lot of self catering properties at this time of year want 7 night stays Fri-Fri or Sat-Sat so if your dates start midweek you might need to split your time up and maybe have a couple of nights at one end of the trip in a hotel. Eating out with allergies is so much better than it used to be.

where are you flying into?

milkandblackspiders · 21/05/2025 15:18

Will a caravan do? Look on hoseasons, first 2 weeks of July will be cheaper as not school holidays in most of UK then.

PansyPottering · 21/05/2025 15:26

In the school summer holidays or just in the summer?

Caspianberg · 21/05/2025 15:26

Trusted housesitters. It’s about £100 membership.
You can find someone who needs cat sitting so not restricted by dog walks. You might not find full 2 weeks but if someone needs 10-12 days it will reduce cost a lot

Pinkycupcakey · 21/05/2025 18:34

@PansyPottering anytime between 1st July to early September
