Looking for ideas for a summer holiday with three teens. Sporty kids but not into walking. Like being near beaches. Tell me what your best holiday was in UK with teenagers.

We do a lot of Uk breaks and my 2 loved Northumbria the most

twistyizzy · 18/05/2025 17:06

Easdale Island on west coast Scotland
Northumberland coast
Boating in Norfolk

Littletreefrog · 18/05/2025 17:08

We hired a 60s VW camper (also took a tent) and travelled around Northumberland. Teens loved it especially as very good photo ops for SnapChat etc.

Schoodle · 18/05/2025 17:10

Mine loved North Wales. We like walking so did some of that in the mountains but also went to Bounce Below, Zip World, Portmeirion, a slate mine, lots of beaches - Barmouth, Criccieth, Harlech.

Also some lovely towns - Llanberis, Porthmadog, etc.

pinkdelight · 18/05/2025 17:11

Edinburgh festival. Mine are less outdoorsy than yours but you could get a good mix of outdoors beyond the city and comedy etc on the fringe.

Woolocombe Bay. Hired one of the beach huts for two weeks. Cost about £120p/w in 2019. Stayed in a nearby campsite but there are holiday cottages and apartments of you are not campers.

Spent two weeks with the kids body boarding and learning to surf. Stayed at the beach hut for breakfast , lunch and an evening bbq or fish and chips while
Watching the sunset on sunny days and did day trips if not so sunny.

Kids loved it. One of our best UK holidays.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 18/05/2025 17:23

Just checked the beach hut rental cost - gone up loads in 6 years. A week is now around £220 - I'd still pay that though as it was brilliant.

Another Northumbria. Lots of different beaches. Bamburgh beach is never over busy to the extent you can't play ball games. Or play by the cricket pitch at the bottom of Bamburgh Castle. Stand up paddle boarding at Beadnell, sheltered bay. Farne Islands boat trip or if old enough seal snorkel safari from Seahouses. Golf courses if that's their thing or have a laugh with crazy golf (we like to do that after evening meal).

Cornwall. Hired a house near a beach. Went boarding, paddle boarding, took the train to St Ives, the zoo, Eden project, BBQs and icecreams.

samlovesdilys · 18/05/2025 17:41

Hired a cottafe in Looe, walked into town, along the beach etc. also booked a morning paddle boarding for all of us, and booked the kids another morning on an inflatable water course thing, they loved all of it, and were saying this weekend they would love to go back!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 18/05/2025 17:45

North Wales for us too.

mountain biking, gorge walking, coastal kayaking, dry ski slope and tobaggon and cable car in Llandudno, different zip worlds - the zip wire and bounce below plus the little go carts, loads of gorgeous beaches

herbalteabag · 18/05/2025 17:56

Another for North Wales. Loads to see and do.

VinoEsmeralda · 18/05/2025 18:11

Our best hols are lots of good food ( and drinks now they are adults, just) games, walks and any water to splash or swim in.

Gower, Lancaster, IOw and Scotland

TallAndSkinnyWithAnUnusuallyLargePelvis · 18/05/2025 18:26

We had some epic holidays in Woolacombe in Devon and Elie in Scotland. We broke up our last Scottish holiday with a couple of days in Edinburgh during the Festival.
Loads within driving distance in both cases and some wonderful beaches. Even if the weather is less than perfect there's loads of places to visit.

What did you like about Lancaster? Where did you stay?

We live not far from there, and have relatives coming up who’d like to stay nearby.

VinoEsmeralda · 18/05/2025 18:52

We stayed near Wray in an Airbnb.
What worked was the Lancaster train station so kids could join us easily, people v friendly, great walks, especially Ingleton. Lots of walks in rain, even egg hunt in rain.

Not much help sorry!

Junegirl15 · 18/05/2025 22:31

Woolacombe sounds like somewhere the kids would all enjoy- love the idea of a beach hut! Have only been to Northumberland once for a holiday so might be some more places there we could explore.

South Wales was our best. Beaches, walks and also some city stuff.

CosyPinkBee · 18/05/2025 22:36

Woolacombe is lovely. Plenty to do with the kids.

GotToWearShades · 18/05/2025 22:41

Body boards, surf school Cornwall. Walks on sone days. Pub dinners and a spacious holiday let

Pottingup · 18/05/2025 22:42

We loved North Wales with teens as well - the Zip World activities are great, nice beaches, boat trip to see puffins and seals and they even agreed to come up Snowden (they did moan a bit but we saw weasels frolicking which was super cool).

Perfect places ours still love now, the still go to Hells mouth surfing. ( its a desolate beach near Abersoch)
Just did a nice day trip to the Conwy Vally and Gwydir forest they are no longer teens but still come out with us.

Padstow. Walk into town, cycle along camel trail, boat across to rock, body boarding and surfing, rock pooling (yes still at 16!) ice creams, fab choices of restaurants. Travelled to Eden project, st Ives and tin mines and lands end.

mrssquidink · 19/05/2025 08:53

Cornwall. Accommodation wasn’t great as it was booked quite late when it was clear Covid meant we wouldn’t be going abroad. But did surfing, paddleboarding, an inflatable water park in one of those flooded quarries, zip wire. Had a nice day out in St Ives (definitely recommend getting the park and (train) ride from St Erth for doing this)
