Tube to Heathrow

For those that know London/travel to Heathrow by tube. We’ll be travelling mid afternoon on a Sunday from Blackfriars to Heathrow T2. We’ll be on the District line initially but need to change onto the Piccadilly line. I recall that South Kensington is a pretty busy tube station and possibly so is Earls Court. Is Barons Court a quieter station to change from District to Piccadilly line? We’ll be 3 adults with luggage so just want to pick the easiest/quietest/least stressful change if possible. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Yes, Baron's Court is perfect for changing lines as you don't have to leave the platform. It's much quieter too.

I’d change at Hammersmith or Barons Court.

It’s the next platform, so no navigating the station.

You could go one stop to Farringdon then the Lizzie line, much quicker

HiddenInCubeOfCheese · 11/05/2025 20:08

agree with @Phunkychicken - air conditioned, less crowded.

Agree on Elizabeth Line.
just check that Thameslink and Eliz Line both working, they do quite often have engineering work on a weekend.

Bloody love all you clever people in my phone! Thanks all. Does the Thameslink (from Blackfriars to Farringdon) operate in the same way as the tube ie just tap and go with contactless payment. Don’t need a specific ticket do we?? 😊

You’re good with contactless!

I’ve actually never used Thameslink but imagine as it’s TfL, it’s the same system. If you didn’t want the faff of a change, an Uber from Blackfriars to either Farringdon or Moorgate and getting on the Lizzie Line would be £15

Really, really appreciate all your input. Thanks so much!! 🤩

Forgot to say, assuming your hotel is the big one on the west side actually near Blackfriars, you can get the 17 or 341 bus very easily
from outside and it’s a direct line to Farringdon. Again, that’s a tap in on the ol’ debit card

Ah thanks so much. We’re more likely to stick with the tube up to Farringdon then the Elizabeth line (the air con on the train is a big attraction!!) But great to have a plan B. Very much appreciate your suggestions 😊

Thameslink is the same tap in/tap out system as tube and would be preferable IMO, I’ll always take a train over a tube! It’s only one stop (pretty sure, possibly two) from Blackfriars to Farringdon, and they’re frequent.

HiRen · 12/05/2025 11:47

The Elizabeth line to Heathrow, every time! Not just the sitcom: it’s way faster, has fewer stops, is cleaner and has more space for luggage. Just find the easiest way to get onto it and then relax.

Yes, I actually meant the Thameslink from Blackfriars to Farringdon, not the tube. I’d rather do this than get the bus to be honest. Then we’ll jump
on the Elizabeth line as so many have suggested. Thank you 🙏
