Taking DS to the Emirates Staduim in August - where to stay?

Do we just stay in central London or is it worth trying to stay somewhere near the staduim??

Have been told it can be a bit of a nightmare getting away from the Stadium after a match so wondered if poss to stay somewhere nice nearby. Failing that may plan to find somewhere for an early dinner and wait till crowds dispersed a bit.

So - recommendations either for hotel near Emirates stadium or restaurant nearby please!

don't stay near the stadium - its not particularly nice round there (busy and a bit rough sometimes) and can't think of a single hotel there anyway. You don't have to stay in central London though, there are plenty of places fairly close by (bus or tube ride away). What is your price range for a hotel?

Its a nightmare around the stadium in terms of cars after a match and i would think the tube station is pretty packed as well for a while. But there really aren't very nice restaurants around Holloway road. But if you were prepared to walk for 15/20 mins or hop on a bus you could get to Highbury/Upper street which have a lot more choice.

Have to go and feed DD, back later with some suggestions...

Have to say that is what I expected really!

Am looking for a hotel but struggling! I like NICE hotels but they are SO expensive. Also want to be walking distance of a few nice restaurants/pubs etc.

Don't have a price range as such - but would want 4 star at least! (DH's fault - he took me to Asia where 5 star hotels are FAB and cheap compared to here and I got used to it!)

hey we're going to! trying to find a place is a PITA!!!! i'm thinking of going a bit further and maybe try a b&b???

Hmm, 4 star in London doesn't mean the same as in other parts of the world! But here are a couple of hotels that aren't too far from the stadium and have some decent restaurants near by:

Camden Holiday Inn - ask for a room high up and facing the Lock. Only a short bus or tube ride or taxi to the stadium. Camden has nice and horrible bits and some good places to eat but also some terrible places! Its close to Primrose Hil land Regents park/London Zoo and also pretty central so lots to do.

Marriott hotel in Swiss Cottage ? bit further away but next to a tube station and close to Primrose Hill/Camden so nice restaurants close by and great parks/zoo etc

If you want something a bit more up market, try this website for ideas. Most of the mid-range to luxury hotels are in central London and quite far from the stadium, but still only a tube or taxi ride away. Have heard good things about the Haymarket Hotel in Leicester Square (on Piccadilly Line so easy to get to the station nearest the Stadium).

There are plenty of B&Bs around London, very hit and miss, tend to be a bit shabby and small! La Gaffe in Hampstead is in a good location in North West London and TripAdvisor has reviews of it. Its in a really nice area, tube close by, as well as lots of restaurants and cafes and shops and Hampstead Heath of course!

Good restaurants in Camden:

  • Mango Rooms (Caribbean)
  • Camden Brasserie (Modern European) ? on same street as Holiday Inn
  • Hache (nice burger restaurant)
  • Marine Ices for good ice cream

And Primrose Hill:

  • Odettes (French)
  • Manna (veggie)
  • Lemonia (Greek)
  • L?Absinthe (French bistro)
  • Engineer Pub/rest
  • Landsdowne Pub/rest

Look on Timeout website for recommendations for restaurants in Highbury and Upper Street which are quite easy to get to from the stadium.

Hope this is of some help

Try the Hampstead Britannia and tube it. Ditto with travelodges and the holiday inn. Going to the emirates cup by any chance? There is no where nice to eat near the stadium. The crowd will be pretty good natured just enjoy the experience!

ScarletPimpernel - thanks so much for all the advice! DH and I used to live in West Hampstead many moons ago (well Cricklewood really but it is a long time ago. Have taken DS to London twice in last 18 months and stayed at Marriott Marble Arch and Grange Holborn.

I love Hampstead Googiesmum so that may well be an idea. And yes - going to Emirates Cup - just the Sunday - DS is massive Arsenal fan and is SO excited!

FYI, despite its name the Hampstead Britannia is actually in Primrose Hill, not Hampstead! Its ok, a bit dated in terms of decor etc but in a nice area (says its 3 star)

Have fun!
