Spa/Retreats in Scotland

It's my 60th this year and I am thinking of taking myself off to a lovely spa/retreat for a week or so.
Spa facilities essential, pool would be nice. Some form of wellness aspects, but not sure what🤔
Hopefully someone will come along with some suggestions. Thanks 😊

What about a cruise? The Fred Olsen line have spas and pools on board, and leave from Scotland. They've several this year at various price points, including this one: The Scenic Shores of Scotland & Ireland | Fred. Olsen Cruises, or ones that go further afield (such as to Norway, Iceland or France)

Cameron House, outside of Glasgow is beautiful. They have an amazing Spa with an infinity pool over looking the Trossachs..great restaurants and an amazing location (Loch Lomond)

@xmasdealhunter A cruise would be lovely, but birthday is in the Autumn, maybe a bit chilly🥶
@bert3400 I will definitely look into Cameron House.

When did you visit? I just googled and it looks wonderful but recent TripAdvisor reviews are not good.

Schloss Roxburgh in Kelso is beautiful, great walks, Yoga one morning a week, great massage, warm outdoor pool and the most relaxing spa area. If you are any larger than a size 8-10 I would request a larger dressing gown as the ‘standard’ bless aren’t overly giving.
Breakfast was a highlight. Lots of outdoor activities too and nearby Kelso is beautiful.

Stobo.

NiftyZebra · 10/04/2025 19:43

Stobo Castle for sure. Fonab Castle is nice and has a spa plus lots to do in the area.

Ohdostopwafflinggeremy · 10/04/2025 19:48

Thanks, lots of researching to do.

Have a look at Glen Eagles. It’s silly money most of the time, but sometimes has some more realistic midweek packages. Their spa area is lovely, as are the walks in the grounds. Out of peak periods there’s sometimes programs with things like cellar tours, falconry demos etc.

Gleneagles is something else. That was my treat to myself for my 60th and don't regret it one bit. Very, very special.

I was very disappointed by Stobo. Young, inexperienced staff and it was way too busy. Not nearly enough loungers by the pool and very odd to be sitting in a robe in the same dining room as people dressed to the nines!

OneSpa at the Sheraton is excellent. Great therapists and the rooftop pool is pretty different.

Many of my friends recommend Portavadie. I've not been yet but I do know the area and it's beautiful. It's on my list.

Parrish · 12/04/2025 19:06

I would agree that Stobo is lovely especially the outside space but the therapists I have experienced are definitely not as good as they used to be and the products they use are meh

helpfulperson · 12/04/2025 19:15

I cant remember what its called but the one on arran is supposedly good. And artan is a nice place to explore

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 12/04/2025 19:32

Gleneagles and schloss Roxburgh for me, there’s a smaller one I can’t think of the name of…

one spa has gone totally downhill, which is a shame as it was lovely
Cameron house also not great anymore although not as dramatically as one spa

cryinginthechapel · 12/04/2025 20:27

For an overnight stay definitely Stobo Castle. The rooms are gorgeous. The food is exceptional and I love the facilities. Fantastic outdoor hot tubs and a great pool.
there’s something so nice about waking up in the morning, slipping in your robe and going down to breakfast, not having to worry about dressing up.? It’s so chilled

We go every year as we have lodge (timeshare). Sometimes the service can bit a bit hit and miss but they have definitely improved, certainly since covid, which desimated the hospitality industry. We absolutely love it and look forward to our week up there.

sunshinechaser · 13/04/2025 12:43

As it’s a very special occasion I don’t think anywhere can beat Gleneagles. It’s expensive but so beautiful! The spa area is gorgeous. And if you stay overnight the breakfast is probably the best I’ve ever had at any hotel anywhere!
