Holiday in UK without a car- possible?

I'd like to go on holiday with DH and DD (age 5 months). We have no car- DH is taking his test again and I'm an uncoordinated incompetent who can't drive at all. Have any of you managed to go on a week long break minus a motor? I was thinking more of the logistics of lugging round a travel cot, buggy and the usual luggage about without the assistance of 4 wheels. Any ideas about destinations or whether it's feasible would be most welcome.

Houseswap??????????? The NCT have a register then you just need to find some options near a station but you won't have the equipment to lug around. Even Butlins & stuff you hire the travel cot.

Have a look at B&B's as well, we supply travel cot, high chair etc so they don't have to bring anthing, most holiday cottages do as well and so do hotels so don't panic

We went to Centre Parks without a car when DS was small, and had to take baby gear - it taught us we didnt need all that stuff It was a lovely holiday, really enjoyed it.

We have 2 dds who are now 10 & 8. We don't drive and have been both to Greece and in this country. Book somewhere that will provide a travel cot and highchair. If its in this country they have to conform to our safety standards. Take a couple of days worth of nappies and then buy the rest there, they are so bulky.
Book somewhere where the station is near where you're staying, so the cab fare isn't too much. Make sure you reserve seats on the train so you've def got a seat.
Most holiday cottages/holiday camps have wm/laundries so you can take a few clothes and just wash them while you're there.
Hope you have a great holiday!

We did it twice when our children were younger - first time we had 3 children aged 5, 3 and 1, the next year they were obviously all a year older!

We went by train to Cornwall both times, although different parts of Cornwall. To be honest it was dead easy. Just find a hotel or cottage with a travel cot, so no carting that around. Then you're just left with the lightest pram/pushchair that's comfortable for your child, their clothes and bits and pieces and your clothes. Again, find somewhere to stay that provides all towels and bedding, although the first time we did this sort of holiday we took our bedding too!

Two adults ought to be able to manage the sort of luggage two adults and a very small child should need. I would suggest if you can't, you're packing too much!

Penzance was great for this sort of holiday. Longish train journey but fairly civilised. And to be honest, your baby won't need entertaining as such on the journey. Once we were there were were loads of things to do locally, either walking or by train (day trips to St Ives and lots of other places via train from Penzance).

Thanks everyone! I'm in London so I'll have a look at the Brighton and B&B option. Didn't know most places supplied a travel cot- I was horrified about how heavy mine is (weighs more than the pram!).

If you're in London, you can get to Rye in East Sussex by train, we have a caravan close by in Camber Sands which has a proper wooden cot (not a travel one), a buggy, a highchair (in fact as I have a baby everything you need for a baby), a sterliser, a washing machine (so you don't have to pack too many things). We do make it available to friends and family only though (not a business) but may be prepared to let you have it, if the dates are suitable, for a heavily discounted price. If you want to CAT me, feel free to do so.
