Devon holiday recommendations for ADHD 9yo boy

(I've posted this on SN Chat too but don't think there's a lot of traffic there!)
I've put it off for as long as I can but we're now having to plan a summer holiday with DS(9)... honestly I dread holidays when he's out of his routine, but we're due to see family in Devon late July/ early August so I'm trying to find something suitable!

DS has boundless energy, lacks concentration, no common sense, very fussy eater and terrible at getting to sleep - I love pottering around on a city break, this is his idea of hell Confused

I'm looking for somewhere to stay which has plenty of outdoor space and activities, probably self catering to cook the dreaded chicken nuggets but with somewhere nearby to eat out too if possible. He would love a farm stay but I'm struggling to find one which isn't £££; I looked at hiring a motorhome but they are in the region of £200 per + petrol, even a holiday camp would be cheaper! Shame as a motorhome with a bit of touring would have been good.

We've stayed in holiday parks (caravans/ chalets) in the past but with limited success, as there wasn't much outdoor space for him to run around. He absolutely loved a PGL holiday we did a couple of years ago, but there's nothing in the area and it's a bit too organised for us if we're also meeting up with family most days.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Smile

What area of Devon are your family in?
Crealy resort near Exeter springs to mind with mobile homes or glamping.
Late July and August are high season so you’ll have to book soon.

Hi @Sgtmajormummy - we would prefer to be round Ilfracombe/ Bideford/ Barnstaple way if possible - although I'm willing to look further afield if necessary!! I'll bear Crealy in mind, thank you!

Again may be too far away, but I found Cranberries Hideaway in Kilmington good with DD when she was about that age (she also has ADHD and needs plenty of space!) - has the self catering option, and also different restaurant options so there are more ‘pub grub’ type chicken nuggets available for the kids. Also near Lyme Regis so you could do a day of dinosaur spotting.

On a less good weather day in North Devon, try Cobbaton, a collector's museum with loads of WW2 memorabilia including tanks. It's hard for a child to break a tank! You can roam or run up and down the aisles without fear of doing much damage.

North Devon is lovely and the beaches at Saunton and Croyde are big and great to burn off energy on. I have stayed at a lovely site but sadly they are not letting to holidaymakers anymore, or I would recommend them to you. Looking myself so I'll come back to the thread if I see anything good.

Have a look at Cheglinch Farm glamping. Lots of space for children to roam, plus an indoor play barn in case of bad weather.

Thank you everyone Smile

@Toastandjam16 I'd love to do some beach days (weather permitting!) - we went on holiday to Dorset a couple of years ago and only got one sunny day in the whole week. The great British weather, eh?!

Do you know @ElleWoods15 , I took DS to Lyme Regis before thinking he would love it, and he did like the dinosaur bits - then he managed to fall over in the sea whilst paddling and had a meltdown Confused happy memories...

@Forgottenmyphone glamping's definitely an option, DP would moan like anything, but DS would love it!!

a couple of holiday parks at woolacombe - walkable to the beach too.
Woolacombe bay and Golden Coast. Both have pools and parks etc.

Woodlands Family Theme Park near Totnes is delightfully bonkers and they have camping pitches if that’s an option. Lots of other things to do round that way too.

Thank you @BrieAndChilli and @HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth, I'll definitely have a look at both of those!
