Coldingham Bay holiday park

Looking for a relatively cheapish UK summer holiday. 4 nights are coming up as £258 in a chalet/basic caravan. I regularly caravan holiday but have never been to Scotland. Averaging around a 6.5 hour drive from Essex.

Anyone been to this particular holiday park? Was it good for kids? It has good reviews on TripAdvisor and looks lovely from the photos.

There's a reason it's cheap OP. Also it's quite likely to be freezing - probably about 10 degrees colder than Essex.

I don’t know the holiday park as we live too close ( although it looks clean and tidy ) but the area is lovely

sometimes it's actually warmer in Scotland than it is in Essex!! ok, not often but 10 degrees is a fair exaggeration.
I think your 6.5 hour drive is somewhat ambitious, I reckon you'd be lucky to it in less than 8 hours of driving, not including breaks.
It's a very small place and you'd be driving to get anywhere else and whilst there's some stunning beaches and coastline there's not much else in the way of facilities around.
I don't think it's worth driving all that way for 4 nights.

I don't think 10 degrees colder is unusual at all - it regularly can be 16c in the east coast of Scotland and 26c in southern England. Add in East Coast haar and it could be even colder. I would not be driving 6.5hrs no chance.

The temperature average is 6 to 7 degrees lower in coldinghan bay than Colchester

this means it can be pleasant rather than baking

the whole coast is fantastic

for small children the beach should be enough

Also live near by, fantastic area and an hour from Edinburgh if you want to explore other parts of Scotland.
We do get quite nice days in the summer like everywhere else in the UK it can be hit or miss.
Pack for all weathers you will be fine.

My family are from near there (Eyemouth).

Coldingham is very much a village but there is plenty to see and do up there (and also en route - Seahouses / Lindisfarne). There's an excellent park and ride into Edinburgh called Craigmillar.

There are loads of caravan parks along the coast - Eyemouth , Dunbar … is coldingam substantially cheaper than those ? A quick glance at Eyemouth suggest not - although I don’t know when you what to travel

with the weather last summer being pants I think bookings in this area are down compared to previous years whixh probably affects the price

We are currently here as we own a static on the site. If you’re prepared to travel when you’re here then it’s a lovely spot for exploring. There’s not much in Coldingham itself apart from a lovely beach. Kids seem to enjoy themselves running around in the summer but the parks are very small.
