Taking a bassinet pram on the train - possible?

Train websites all seem to say prams should be folded down, but DD is still in the bassinet which doesn’t fold down. Does this mean we can’t travel by train?!

How long is your journey OP and what train company?
If it's quiet and there's room you could probably leave the baby in the pram. If it's busy yes you'll have to fold it and hold your baby or use a sling.

Edited to add just read properly and seen your pram doesn't fold at all. Can you get a cheap one for travel?

What kind of train are you thinking of / how long would the journey be? On local commuter trains (like Thameslink or Javelin train) I’ve just taken it on and stood in the bit next to the doors like I would on the tube. For longer journeys like LNER that would last a few hours, i wouldn’t take it or would remove the bassinet and try and fold down.

Commuter trains with double opening doors are fine off peak but could be difficult if busy. On intercity trains or others without an area without seats you will be hoping nobody with a wheelchair get on because they must take priority

Some trains have plenty of room, some don't.

Depending on how long your journey is you can also take the bassinet off the wheels, fold the chassis and put the bassinet in the luggage rack with baby in a sling.

It’s an intercity train, 90 mins.

I can’t afford to buy another pram but also as DD is under six months she still needs to lie flat rather than being in a buggy?

I’ll need the pram at the other end so just taking a sling wouldn’t be practical, also I’m not sure a sling would do my back any good! Neither DD or I have really got on with the slings when we’ve tried them 😅

I'm a wheelchair user.

Most people seem to just use he wheelchair space and hope no-one disabled turns up.

You'll have to move if they do.

Most of the prams I see are car seats on a frame though. The parents take the baby out during the journey.

You can take baby out and carry them on your lap, putting pram in luggage rack if absolutely desperate. But travel when it's quiet and you should be ok.

I must say I never even considered this. I've always taken DCs in bassinet prams on most modes of transport. There are multiple carriages on one train so it's unlikely anyone would ask you to fold it down.

I have taken a bassinet on trains. Go off peak on a weekday and you'll be fine. Avoid any major dates likely to have busier trains. I think I went weekend once though and that was fine. I have never folded or needed to, bassinet or seat, on Thameslink in and out of London. I did have to on LNER on a Friday afternoon once.
