Easy but impressive Lake District walks

I’m visiting the Lakes in a couple of weeks with some friends, one that has terminal cancer. The Lakes are on her bucket list and she used to be a keen walker but can’t go far at all now. We’re staying in Ambleside and have a car but all the easier/accessible walks I can find still include a bit of a scramble. I’d love to find a walk or two where we can park high and walk for half an hour or so to get a great view. An ascent is fine but not a scramble or anything too steep. Any ideas?

There is a car park off the logging road on the north shore of Ennerdale water and you can walk just a couple of hundred metres to the seat on top of bowness knoll for the most stunning views.

You could visit Honister slate mine for one of the most scenic valleys. Borrowdale is stunning and you can park and walk in basically any direction from there.

Keswick to Friar’s Crag for stunning views of derwentwater.

Have a look at "Miles without Stiles" we found lots of amazing walks on here which my Mum was able to do with limited mobility

It is a lovely route but it’s over 6km and 400m+ ascent so it’s not a half hour walk really.

sorry that was to @Toddlerteaplease about the coffin route

If your friend can manage up hill but doesn't want anything too long then Latterbarrow on the Wray road between Ambleside and Hawkshead offers an excellent view for a fairly short walk.

Great views from Hallin Fell above Ullswater. We took a 5yr old up there last March and were at the top within 25 mins, slightly steep at the beginning but if you take it easy then would think it would be manageable

Latrigg. Lovely views and an easy walk from the carpark.

Er...not an easy walk for some!

I always find Tarn Hows underwhelming, it's definitely not spectacular.
I'd walk the Catbells terrace path, alongside derwentwater... get ferry across derwentwater from Keswick.

Or go up Latringg from the upper carpark as another poster suggested!

Or around Buttermere, totally beautiful

It's a 1.5 mile round walk from the car park described here as ideal for those with small children or mobility issues. I've done it with kids and grandparents. If you need a walk completely on the flat, I'd recommend Friar's Crag, Derwentwater, and then have a trip round the lake on the fabulous Keswick Launch.

As KatieWeasel said you want to look at the ‘Miles without Stiles’ routes. Both Latrigg (above Keswick) and Orrest Head (above Windermere) are included in the miles without stiles and have benches at the top.
Orrest Head is the hill that inspired Wainwright to climb all the Lakeland fells and write his famous Lakeland guidebooks.

Orrest Head, Windermere. A reasonably gentle walk to the top with 360' views and a name board for all the mountains you can see. Path recently improved so safe underfoot. Have a read up

I was going to say Orrest Head to! One of our faves, relatively easy walk for unreal views.

Tarn How's is also beautiful but is a flat circular route so no views over a lake.

I use os maps and lakes & trails pro for route ideas. Sometimes all trials. Also paper map
