Trains - any good apps

I don't mean to buy tickets but ones that help you decide how best to make connections etc.
I have a complicated journey to make and would really value advice on which carriage is optimal to make a quick change between trains.
I'm sure something like this exists for TfL but does anything exist for the wider train system?

National Rail app covers all rail operators. You just put your start and end point in and it gives you route options, ticket prices and directs you to the rail operator to book tickets. You can also get platform numbers and live train times off it.

I do have that but it doesn't seem as good as it was fr predicting which platform I am coming into. It also seems more focused on selling tickets than guiding through an active journey

if you look the national rail app there's station maps online if that helps?

Select your station, then click 'staff view'

It's the real time feed to the station staff screens so only shows the next few hours, but can be invaluable during your journey if it's disrupted.

Other options show the train layout relative to the platform.

What's the journey, trainline work it all out with the changes. Platforms, times. The carriage will depend on each station, whether its a different platform or which platform it goes from.

The man in seat 61 does this for international travel, and covers a couple of within UK journeys, so might be worth having a look.

However, platform changes seem a lot more common in the UK than on European international trains, so it might not be that helpful.

If you're going via Birmingham NS the quickest way to change platforms is via the footbridge at the B end of the platforms. That's saved me a few times!

Thank you @Hardlyworking that seems very helpful!
