Bristol/ Bath with 7yo

My dc, 7yo soon to be 8, has asked to visit and stay in Bristol for his birthday! I've never actually been.
We are not too far way so it could be a day trip but also may be nice if we book somewhere just outside Bristol and have a little weekend break.

What are things we should definitely see and do while there with him? He is curious and has many interests, they are studying Romans at school atm, he likes art...

Do you think it's realistic to do both Bristol and Bath over one weekend?

TIA

We Are The Curious is an excellent science museum. They have some pretty cool activities and workshops too. Recently my DS made a model Gromit there.
The fun little Bristol Art Museum and Gallery has some good collections for kids, such as dinosaurs and the Ancient Egypt section on the ground floor, including mummies (and mummified cats!).

It's realistic in terms of travel, and you could do a day in each. You obviously won't see (even close to) everything but that's ok - pick one attraction in each place then anything else you see/do is a bonus!

Bristol - Harbourside/Millennium Square/Park St has loads of options - we the curious, Bristol Museum, M Shed, RWA, Arnolfini, plus lots of places to eat. If the weather is dry and your in this area, check out Brandon Hill - climb Cabot Tower for the views, and there's a play area at the bottom to let off steam.

Bath is marvelous. The Roman Bath tour and the pump room tea shop are fantastic.

The Roman Baths in Bath are lovely and suitable for children. Then a walk around Bath, up to the Royal Crescent and the Circus. All doable in a day.

Bristol
Aerospace Museum at Filton
The Wave.
Planet Ice.
Clifton Suspension Bridge has a small museum
Camera Obscura on Durdham Downs (also a good place for a run around)
Blaise Castle has a good play area, a stream and the castle (folly).
Ashton Court also good for a walk.
The Harbour ferry
SS Great Britain
We the Curious , also has a planetarium.
M Shed
Football teams are Bristol Rovers and Bristol City- might be worth seeing if either are playing at home. Bristol Bears rugby share Bristol City's ground.
Freedog.

Bath
Royal Victoria Park
Bath Skyline
Roman Baths

It's worth keeping in mind that both cities have Clean Air Zones and Residents Parking Zones if you're bringing a car.

That's all great - thank you so much.
Off to check places to stay.

I'm excited for him.

The SS Great Britain and attached museum is great, Really interesting and lots of detail, you can see the bunks, kitchens, have a go at mopping the deck etc.
