Liverpool - Novotel or Hampton by Hilton?

Hi, I’m planning a short suprise city break for February on something of a budget.

As, I’ve never visited Liverpool, I can’t imagine spending much time in our room and so have decided to use the budget in other areas. This is also because our last city break in November we barely saw the room and didn’t use any of the extra facilities like pool/spa etc.

So I’ve been looking at these 2 hotels and wondered which of the Novotel or Hampton by Hilton is best located for the main tourist attractions?

Additionally, does anybody know if the car park at the Hampton is free for patrons’ or charges a daily rate (if it’s free it brings the hotel’s price down in real terms ). Parking - safety and the cost of such, will be the surprise recipients’ first concern!

Are there any local attractions that are a must see and/ or any eateries we shouldn’t miss?

..Would be nice to get a mix of free and paid for activities. We are culturally interested - aside from art museums.

Thanks in advance.

I stayed in the Novotel a while ago as I remember it had a nice little pool and was in a great location .

I stayed at the Hilton in September , location is good but it’s not the best Hilton I’ve stayed in , I’m a Diamond member so stay frequently. The service in the bar/reception was shocking , the room was tired. I was only there for the night so it didn’t matter too much but I was disappointed with the issues and wouldn’t go back to the Hampton in Liverpool , what about the double tree ? I can’t answer for the Novotel .

Oh and the parking is not free !

I frequently stay in Liverpool hotels and would personally pick the Novotel over the Hampton by Hilton. If you book parking ahead of time using the QPark app you can get a discount on the parking.
Alternatively you could stay outside the city centre and get the bus in - public transport is great. I've stayed in a lovely Airbnb in Edge Hill which was 2 min walk from a bus stop and a 15 min journey into the city centre. If you are set on a hotel there is a Novotel in Paddington Village which isn't far out from the centre.

I spent many years staying at the Novotel 4 nights a week - great location and the staff were lovely (they used to leave me Christmas presents in my room 😁- clearly a sign I'd been there too long). So I'm biased, but I'd go for the Novotel.

Loads of museums are free. You can get a ferry/open topped bus ticket using tesco club card vouchers I think. Quirky Quarter is fab. You can go up the Liver Building.

Food - Amalia and Trattoria 51 are both great Italian food close to the city centre Novotel, and in Liverpool One there are a decent selection of chain eateries including Las Iguanas and Wagamama. I think in Duke Street there are great street food places too.

Novotel is a great location and QPark is right next door. Check with the hotel whether you get a parking discount.

Thanks ☺️.

it sounds like Novotel is the way to go then and there’s some great suggestions for activities too. Thanks again 😀

Possible places to visit:

  • St George's plateau - here is St. George's Hall, World Museum, Central Library, St.John's Gardens (and Walker Art Gallery but I know you said you're not interested in art!).
  • Liverpool One for shopping and food.
  • Albert Dock and Pier Head - big wheel, Museum of Liverpool, Piermaster's House, mersey ferries, beatles experience, food, souvenir shops etc.
  • Bold Street, Lark Lane and Allerton Road all great for food and drink.
  • Sudley House.
  • Speke Hall.
  • Strawberry Fields.

I had a "tourist day" with my daughter last year. We did The Beatles experience, pizza for lunch at Rudy's at the docks, and visited the museum next door which was excellent. Then we did the Quirky Quarter experience which had us laughing for 2 hours. I love Liverpool, it's a great city.
