No trains from London!

Going to an event in the excel centre in London in March. I've just gone to book train tickets to discover there are no trains from Euston that Sunday due to strikes. Apparently there "may" be trains nearer the time but they can't guarantee this. Coaches don't work out with the times of the event (and would take 8 hours) – I'm screwed aren't I?! I live too far away to drive and in any case have booked a central London hotel

Avanti have been rubbish on Sundays for years, but now they have announced 6 months of strikes. I don't know how they stay in their jobs, tbh.

I'd be very surprised if the dispute isn't resolved by then. Just keep an eye on what's going on and don't do anything until a bit nearer the time.

(I work in the industry)

Thank you, that's good to hear. I know I have other options now, so I will keep an eye on the strike dates and see if there is a resolution.

Yeah, obviously I can't promise anything as I don't work for Avanti and I don't have any insider knowledge here, but often unions will announce a lot of strike dates in an attempt to force negotiations in a more positive direction, and generally it works. The current government also seems much more willing to engage positively to resolve disputes as well - the Tories wasted billions and prolonged disputes out of sheer pig-headedness.

There are Facebook groups for lift sharing, maybe you could even find people driving back your way after the same concert.

For Sunday 9th March
1903 Kings Cross
2118 Leeds
then
2157 Leeds
2344 Preston

Northern are crap at the moment especially on Sundays. Highly unlikely the op would get back from Leeds to Preston relatively late on Sunday evening.

I'm not sure if it's just Avanti - I will look as could possibly drive from another station if I can get a train to somewhere

It’s only Avanti, they are a pissing nightmare so rightly their staff have had enough but this means strikes every Sunday for months.

Alternate routes Chiltern and the other will be mad busy. It’s a shit show.

That was cancelled yesterday, northern are terrible for Sunday cancellations at the moment. Impossible to rely on them. No other trains from Leeds to Preston either after that, not even if changing at Manchester! A long expensive journey by taxi!
