Theme parks for young children with shortest queues

Which theme parks are best for young children (aged 7 and under) - and have the shortest queues? We've done Cbeebiesland /Alton Towers twice before which was very much loved but that was week days in term time and now eldest is 6 and at school. So we'd be looking at peak times and I can't see the 3 year old queuing for hours.

Depending on where you're based, I recommend Gullivers Land, went there in August and there were only a couple of long queues (log flume and 'big' rollercoaster) - lots we were on within one or two rides.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/12/2024 16:17

I recommend Twinlakes in Melton Mowbray

Paultons Park. The best theme park in the UK in my opinion for 12s and under.

Thewholeplaceglitters · 08/12/2024 16:21

Paultons park is usually minimal queuing unless you go absolutely peak season eg August bank holiday. The trick is to do the rest of the park first and then ppw later in the day when all the toddlers have gone home.

DD(5) loves Legoland but choose your dates wisely - beginning of the summer holidays, busy but fine. October half term - rammed!

TeenToTwenties · 08/12/2024 16:22

Paultons Park near Southampton.

Nickelodeon land at the Pleasure Beach wasn’t over crowded last time we went, there was plenty of rides in the main park too. The hotel was much nicer than Alton towers splash landing's.

This is one of our closest so was looking at it, but I haven't been in many many years so no idea how long queues are nowadays? Which hotel was it you stayed at?

Completely agree with the recommendations for Paulton’s. It’s fantastic for children and the queues are short to non-existent.

Depends where you are located but we went to Gulliver's world near Warrington a couple of times, it's really geared towards younger kids, no big rollercoasters etc but we had a good time and I can't remember any crazy queues

LegoInfestation · 09/12/2024 21:55

Based on the one time we've been to Legoland, If you choose an inset day when Bucks/Berks/Surrey are all at school, LL can be great, especially if you get there when it opens and pack in the most popular rides before around 12:30,

We love Wicksteed park in Northamptonshire for a day out. Basically no queueing for rides but they're tamer than the big theme parks. Absolutely perfect under 7 I'd have thought. It's in a big country park so there's also a nice walk around a lake and loads of quiet picturesque spots for a picnic.

Agree!!!

Yesiknowdear · 09/12/2024 21:59

Erm. Gullivers land was much better queue wise than any of the Merlin owned places we've been to.
Wicksteed Park isn't generally terrible, end or beginning of season.
I know it's a further trek, but disneyland paris for early January, February, early September, and early November are generally quieter times.. you can also pay to get their version of fast track, most things you're on and off within 20 minutes (the lower crowd times are generally cheaper too!)

camperjam · 09/12/2024 22:04

Definitely Paultons Park for minimal queues

Cactuslife · 09/12/2024 22:08

Gulliver’s Kingdom in Matlock. Minimal queuing and loads of rides for younger ones. We always have a great day

Doingthework · 09/12/2024 22:12

Paultons Park is one of the best kept uk parks

I am local to gullivers Warrington but much prefer gullivers valley near Doncaster.

Been to both Crealy and woodlands in Devon whilst on holiday and both were pleasant in. Early August mid week.

Id also look to go to Efteling in Holland. If you like parks you’d love it . Especially staying on site . The May half term can miss the Dutch holidays 👍

mummyh2016 · 09/12/2024 22:15

Gulliver's (I'm referring to the Matlock one) and Drayton Manor for the kids rides.

MayaPinion · 09/12/2024 22:22

Paulton’s Park is a wonderful experience for under 12s. It’s beautifully laid out with a wide range of attractions and short queues. It’s also less ‘grabby’ and tacky than some of the bigger ones. There are no chain restaurants and the cafés are reasonably varied and well priced for a theme park, good picnic facilities, etc. It’s impossible to get discount tickets or vouchers so it’s expensive to get in, but it is a very high quality experience.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/12/2024 22:28

Anywhere on one of your inset days providing the area that you’re visiting doesn’t also have one!

We had some fabulous trips to legoland using this tactic

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/12/2024 22:33

Paultons park.

Gullivers Matlock looked rickety and dangerous when we were there.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/12/2024 22:34

In fact it's closed down for now

Eileen101 · 09/12/2024 22:35

Twin lakes! We went in a weekend, barely any queues, or minimal.

cigarettesNalcohol · 09/12/2024 22:36

Another vote for Paulton's park. So so good there.

lavendarwillow · 10/12/2024 22:28

Just have to add Paultons Park too. Have been to all the popular ones here in the UK and Paultons by far is the most clean (it's absolutely spotless), great setting and theming, car parking is good (no muddy fields like Chessington!!) and the queues are minimal.

Ah it’s a bit shabby in places but I don’t think it’s dangerous! They’ve got a fabulous newish high ropes course and zip line roller coaster which are good for older ones.
