50th Birthday Ideas

I want to go somewhere special for my 50th birthday with DH.

A very nice restaurant (possibly Michelin-star but not essential). We're in the West Midlands but I have no objection to an overnight stay for the right place.

I don't really want a fancy London or Birmingham restaurant, somewhere more country. The Fat Duck feels a bit obvious and I think I'll be disappointed.

Any suggestions?

Whatley Manor in the Cotswolds

That looks fabulous! Thank you - I shall forward to DH immediately.

Paul Ainsworth at No6 in Padstow is fantastic. Amazing food, impeccable but relaxing service.

Portmerion in North Wales. Hotel with restaurants, amazing grounds(Italinate) , sea views etc.

Northcote manor in the ribble valley (Lancashire) stunning!

Benedict's in Norwich - Michelin starred but not at all pretentious. Lovely city for a night away as well. Dh and I did exactly this for his 50th last summer and had a wonderful time.

Northcote is good.

If within budget, I would go to Ynyshir (easy walk around the RSPB reserve before dinner) or alternatively a weekend in Edinburgh including dinner at Lyla. Both in the top restaurants in the country.

I should add, that my DW who abandoned me to eat at the Fat Duck still rates it as one of her top dining experiences (and we're fortunate enough to have eaten in many Michelin starred restaurants over the years).
