Hidden gems Manchester hotels

The best tripadvisor alternative I know is you lot. Anyone who'll advise me to Google need not reply or read. Has anyone been in last year or so to the Lowry at Salford or malmaisom or can recommend any Manchester hotels - ideally something a bit nicer than a premier inn but not mega mega expensive
I'd pay up to £250 for a lovely day as it's a birthday gift to me

The midland. Perfect location amazing restaurant

The Midland or Dakota

the village at Ashton if budget but less. Get tram to town in 15 mins

pktechgirl · 02/12/2024 15:50

Agree with Midland.

We stayed at The Lowry and thought it was great. Also stayed at Kimpton Clocktower and nice but much preferred Lowry.

I stayed at the midland (admittedly years ago) and the mattress was that saggy and knackered I had to put it on the floor to make it firm enough to sleep on. Also not all rooms have a view other than one onto other windows internally and some of those that do are plagued by the sound of tram bells dinging!

Couple of new ones in here. Have stayed at Midland and wasn't super impressed. I went to a spa in one and that looked nice. Radisson maybe ? But I'm going back pre Covid so not sure what they're like

Hotel Gotham?

ETA I forgot about King Street Townhouse, I really like the spa there!

Not in the centre but in super nice Didsbury this boutique hotel https://didsburyhouse.co.uk/?gadsource=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwtfu-eKLigMVqKVQBh1Jyw8nEAAYAiAAEgJ8ZPDD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

About half an hour on the tram from the centre. Plenty of local parks, restaurants and coffee shops.

Tram bells dinging? What century did you visit? Metrolink don't have bells, they have horns and that's a lot louder than bells.
I'd opt for the Lowry personally, it's lovely. Malmaison Piccadilly is on a really busy corner as is The Midland and the Kimpton is also on a busy road and next to train tracks at one end. The Lowry always feels more peaceful to me.
