Travelling to London

Hi ladies, we're in Nottingham & are going to London for a weekend in December. Where we can we drive to and (ideally) get a train/tube in that's not too far away from London & all the sightseeing parts? Ideally with free parking. Happy to drive a couple of hours south. Thank you!

Have you found anywhere yet? Wink

Why don't you train the whole way? Driving to outer London doesn't really save much time because parking restrictions are so widespread in London these days so you need to park quite far out and then you add 30 mins tube to your journey. Unless you're driving on a Sunday maybe. Whereas if you take the train the whole way you'll be dropped right in the centre.

We park at Westfield. Not free though.

We've done it and parked at Watford junction. It's a paid car park but not too expensive.

Hi, I'm near Nottingham. When I go to London I either

  • get the train from East Mids Parkway (it's easy parking and quite cheap, plus the train (which is only 1hr20 gets into St Pancras which is lovely)
  • drive to Luton Airport Parkway and get City Thameslink into the centre. Parking is pre-bookable and the drive isn't that far down the M1. Trains are frequent.
  • drive all the way to Westfield and park there. Least favourite option - takes ages to get into London traffic.

Just get the train direct from Notts to London.
