Manchester Hotel advice

I am trying to find a hotel for tonight and tomorrow for a reasonable price and everything is absolutely extortionate, I've tried hotels own websites, signing up, booking.com and trivago.

Does anyone have any magic hidden gems? Needs to be city centre and decent, not grim.

I'm happy to.pay £100 a night but it's more like £160 for anything half decent!!!

£100 a night is nothing in a major city these days, and you're booking at very short notice on a weekend! The Premier Inn and Travelodge at Salford Quays are possibly the best option but you'd need to use the tram out from the city centre.
Sacha's is £102 a night room only on lastminute.com and very central
Avoid the Britannia by Piccadily Gardens, it's the cheapest hotel in town for a reason!

The prices are more than usual, and go on lots of city breaks in the UK often last minute. I've stayed at the Moxy in Manchester before for £150 and unfortunately I've stayed at the Brittania- they are charging £130 on Booking.com- I stayed at the grand in Birmingham recently, a 5 star, for £20 more.

Some of the hotels in Liverpool that are normally £150 max a night are over £300

Crazy. Motel1 looks a good choice for the price

We stayed at The Holiday Inn Express in Salford not long ago. We were impressed with it for the price. It has its own free car park, unlike the Premier Inn (where you have to pay for parking in a car park across the road) and Marriott (which has a small car park, which was full by the time we got there at tea time). They allowed us to leave our car in their car park until 6 pm, the day of checking out. So we were able to do, what we went for. Nearby car parks were £25 - £35 for 24 hours.

Breakfast was on a par with Premier Inn’s all you can eat breakfast iirc. We were quoted £113 for dinner, bed and breakfast or £98 for bed and breakfast. They have a small restaurant, that serves typical pub food, but it’s ok. (Check with them, but we found it was open to residents in the evening even though the website said was closed in the week)

We stayed on a Sunday and Monday night though, so Saturday might be more?

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 08/11/2024 13:48

Oh no, it’s £189 for bed and breakfast tomorrow night!

BeanBeliever · 08/11/2024 13:48

stayed in Fallowfield last weekend, it’s quite nice despite being the ‘student’ area: see if you can find something around there?

that said, £100 is really not much for a city hotel

what about looking for a studio room in airbnb

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 08/11/2024 13:53

Weekend rates for anywhere half decent will be over £320 all in.

AltitudeCheck · 08/11/2024 14:02

Manchester is pricey, usually more expensive than London, especially in town on a Saturday night.

Motel One is a nice hotel, good breakfasts and central.

MiddleAgedDread · 08/11/2024 14:04

If you can hold your nerve for a couple of hours then prices sometimes go down on lastminute.com Sasha's is down to £97 now from £102 earlier.
It's just late to be booking something if you're on a budget!

Robinrbst · 08/11/2024 14:05

Yeah £100 is lower end of budget certainly but I dont think that anywhere half decent will be over £320

The Grand Hotel in Bham is amazing and was £150 on a Saturday night 2 months ago

I literally have never paid over £250 a night for city centre hotels in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham and that includes really fancy ones.

I can't speak for London though

I like Fallowfield but really wanted to be city centre based, thanks though 🙂

Please do not go to Sacha's or the Britannia 😬😬😬

Unfortunately it's really expensive in the city centre right now. But we have a brilliant tram system. If you're able to find a reasonably priced hotel in Salford Quays then it's only 15mins on a tram to the centre

Robinrbst · 08/11/2024 14:08

Thank you, I've had the misfortune of staying at the Brittania before (shivers) haha and didn't like the look of Sachas

I'll look at the quays thank you

Also have a look on the tram route map. There are a lot of options if you don't mind taking a quick tram into the city.

Also the Christmas markets are open from today! Enjoy the gluhwein

We’ve stayed at the Premier Inn at the Trafford Centre, when we needed to go to Salford. Partly, because it’s got a big free car park! It wasn’t a long drive into Salford. It’s £268 for tonight and tomorrow night. It was perfectly ok.

We’ve paid £250 a night for the Premier Inn at Farringdon, on a week day!

Hoplolly · 08/11/2024 16:57

Manchester can be really expensive. Try The Maldron.

Also I just booked a Premier Inn near Old Trafford so a way out but it was £69. So maybe try some in the city centre.
