Where to stay in Manchester

DD (early teens) and I want to visit The Trafford shopping centre.

Last visited Manchester over 30 years ago so not familiar with the city at all.

Can anyone recommend a hotel, keep going round in circles. Not sure if we should stay centrally and then get public transport to TC or stay near TC. Also need a hotel with parking and see most of the central hotels don’t have and suggest local NCPs, are they safe?

I keep looking at the Lowry hotel which looks lovely and they have parking you can pre book but what is the area like and how easy would it be get to the Trafford Centre?

What would folks recommend, thanks.

Right near the Trafford centre, and not far from a tram line If you wanted to go to Salford quays / city centre

I agree with @Beatricebotterx stay near the trafford centre. Ease for access off the M60 and parking at the hotel. You can also jump on the tram if you want to travel anywhere else.

Agree stay at the Trafford Centre. It's on the tramline into MCR city centre if you wanted to go in, but will take 20ish mins.

Agree with Holiday Inn Express, probably a better bet than the Premier Inn that looks quite old to me (from the outside!)

I am local by the way and family members who visit usually stay there with no problems at all. There is also a mcdonalds and a pub on the doorstep either side of the hotel which is convenient!

@Beatricebotterx @Ilikewinter @yoshiblue Thank you all, I will look at holiday inn express.
What’s the parking situation like, do you know?

If you need parking then I'd stay by the Trafford Centre and use the tram if you want to go into the city centre.Personally I wouldn't want to leave my car on a city centre NCP over a weekend and it'll probably cost almost as much as the hotel room. If you want somewhere slightly nicer than the Trafford Centre area (it's sandwiched between the M60, an industrial park and one of the biggest sewage works in the country!) then look around Salford Quays / Media city. Whatever you do, make sure you avoid a Man Utd home match day or hotel prices will multipy!

@MiddleAgedDread sorry for late response, thank you for the reply. That’s really helpful.

The Travelodge is perfectly fine and usually a bit cheaper than the Premier Inn. Free parking and a short walk over to the Trafford centre. It's an easy tram ride to town from there.

If they’re in any way alternative, take them to Afflecks Palace. It’s still there just the same as it ever was.
