Short break in Bristol

I've booked 2 nights at The Bristol end of October. Just me. I can't wait.

What would you do by day? I like museums and fun things. Wake the Tiger likely to be busy, due to school holidays, yes?

Any restaurants or bars you'd recommend?

Looking forward to all your top tips!

If you can fit it in, I’d recommend an Avon Gorge boat trip with Bristol Packet
For food and drink, I recommend the Lido, Mugshot Restaurants and Seven Lucky Gods.

I shall be googling those food options tonight.

I love the idea of a boat trip. Thank you.

Walk up through the lovely Brandon Hill Park and up the tower for a fantastic view
Ditto the Clifton Observatory
Explore the St Nicholas Market - fantastic for a street food lunch (much better than the overpriced touristy street food by the harbour)
The SS Great Britain and associated museum is fascinating
The White Lion Bar has a huge terrace overlooking the gorge and the suspension bridge - outdoor heaters and excellent cocktails.

The Clifton suspension bridge & the whole surrounding Downs area is worth a visit.
We did a bus tour as well which points out all the local landmarks including the Banksy artworks. It's easy to get on & off to explore different areas.
Cabot Circus was great for shops & restaurants when I was last there although it was in 2017, Cribbs Causway is further out but good shopping too.

Chez Marcel is a creperie, lovely food and atmosphere. My favourite place to lunch.

Wake the Tiger is brilliant. You have to book a slot so that would hopefully spread people out.

Not far from Cribbs Causeway is The Aerospace Museum where Concorde is kept. Also nearby is The Wild Place zoo.

These all sound wonderful suggestions.

Thank you🙏

Root is very good for food

I've been looking into things and itinerary forming.

Any good greek restaurants you can recommend please?

I've only been able to find one boat company online doing a tour of the harbour. They're not touring on any of the days we're there. Are there other companies which aren't online that run out of the harbour?

Thanks

I'm in Bristol right now. It's amazing. Why didn't I know before how wonderful this city is?!

Bristol packet boats run the ferry every day which does a 45 min trip round the harbour (and you can hop on/hop off) for about £10. It starts from the harbour steps at the bottom of Park Street. No need to book just pay on the boat. Mshed and the Bristol museum both free and worth a look. The graffiti tour which starts from the green outside the cathedral is really interesting. The cathedral currently has a huge suspended globe called Gaia by Luke Jerram - also free to enter.

Both the Gaia ball and the cathedral are worth visiting do it's a bonus they are together.

the hat bistro does lovely, unpretentious greek food and has a great wine list. It’s tiny, so worth booking at weekends. there’s a lovely cypriot bakery on park row too (can’t remember what it’s called!).
