Ideally near Ambleside/Grasmere and gastropub type food/modern British pub stuff not fine dining.

No kids so child-friendly isn't needed.
Any recommendations would be great!

The Priest Hole is excellent. Interior is a little dated but food is fairly modern and always excellent.
We also like The Queen’s Head in Hawkshead. Great food and cosy on a cold day as they have open fires.
The Wateredge Inn is lovely on a nice day.

Lanty Slee at Elterwater is lovely.

Not exactly what you asked but lunch at Heft which has a Michelin star is £49 and bloody amazing. It's very casual as it's a village pub - although takes nearly 3 hours if you have everything.

Thank you both!

The drunken duck is lovely

The Good Sport in Grasmere does superb food.

Newtrix · 06/10/2024 12:47

We love The Wild Boar and Porto both in Bowness so a little further but both are amazing.

Svalberg · 06/10/2024 12:59

Old Stamp House in Ambleside (might be more restauranty than you're looking for)
Drunken Duck - Elterwater/Ambleside
Hawkshead Brewery at Staveley (very casual, walking crowd)
Watermill Inn in Ings (has its own microbrewery)
Mortal Man in Troutbeck

Reading the views maybe not so!

fleapithome · 06/10/2024 17:15

Thank you!

I've been to a couple of the places in Ambleside but it was a while ago and these are all great suggestions.

Now just deciding do I take the big winter coat or the medium one and layer up!

@schloss oh my word! It certainly seems to have gone downhill since last summer.

Hawkshead in Staveley closed a few weeks ago very suddenly. The brewery ripped out the bar and sacked all the staff with basically no notice.

I’ve always liked the Britannia inn at Elterwater

indigoemerald · 06/10/2024 22:21

A bit out of your way, but we had some gorgeous food at the Inn at Ravensglass on our last trip to the Lakes. Would recommend if you plan on doing the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway!

What! That's dreadful. DH is now going to boycott them...
