Got a flight tomorrow morning at 10am. My daughter is 1 when we fly tomorrow, but 2 when we fly back. We just booked her a child seat for both flights, figured it cost more but it's easier than faffing around booking an infant seat to fly out, and a child seat for way back.
Little did I know there's a reason for infant seats and child seats. She must fly out as an infant on my lap tomorrow, and the parent with the infant must sit at a window seat as that's where the double oxygen masks are. My husband has the window seat with our newborn. We don't have any other window seat on our booking. Which I gather, If there isn't any window seats available tomorrow then we won't be able to fly. I haven't been able to contact anyone since realising this so I'm freaking out.

Any one been in this position? I'm so nervous that we won't be able to fly tomorrow. Kicking myself :(

Never been put buy the window with the babies… think you will be fine

areallmotherslikethis · 02/10/2024 21:59

Get there early and speak to the check in desk

The staff were pretty good when we flew with them and should be able to accommodate

Quitelikeit · 02/10/2024 21:59

As you have ordered her own seat I find it highly unlikely that they will think she’s under 2! They won’t check her dob etc

Amammai · 02/10/2024 22:00

I would have thought they’ll swap you if it’s a safety thing, like they would with people who sit near the emergency exits. I would go to the airport as normal and see what they say tomorrow but I think you’ll be fine!

Cryanair

Tiredofthewhirring · 02/10/2024 22:02

Think about this. You've booked two seats, so two oxygen masks. So it doesn't matter where you sit. As the seat next to you will be her empty seat complete with oxygen mask

Tiredofthewhirring · 02/10/2024 22:03

Double oxygen masks only needed when the other oxygen masks are being used by other ppl

Nicnak2223 · 02/10/2024 22:05

Normal time is only 1 infant per row as they're are 1 extra mask per row so this shouldn't be a problem. Lots of people book seats for infants.

I've been crew on lots of different AC types and never heard about the window seats

NEVER fly with Ryanair, bloody hell. They are notoriously bad.

GoldenSunflowers · 02/10/2024 22:08

I don’t think this will be a problem. Try and get some sleep and enjoy your holiday.

unknownn · 02/10/2024 22:08

Okay you guys have made it make sense! I feel a lot better about it now, hopefully we will be fine. Having a mad moment 🤦🏼‍♀️ thank you

I've never heard of the window seat thing. I've flown with a baby on my lap in an aisle seat. In any case, your child has an oxygen mask from the seat next to them even if they aren't sitting in it.

unknownn · 02/10/2024 22:11

Are all masks the same size does anyone know? Like there isn't adult and kids masks is there? X

I've flown lots with an infant on ryanair and not in the window seat. I'm sure this will be fine.

imjusthereforAIBU · 02/10/2024 22:29

We flew with a 9month old and were put in an aisle seat on Ryanair.

Bigsigh24 · 02/10/2024 22:43

Don’t think you need a window seat for sitting with under twos. Was on a Ryan flight this year and there was a mum and dad, dad with baby at window seat and mum with toddler. Only noticed cause they were upset, from tiredness it seemed and they were coping so well with them , think youve got that wrong,

it would be very limiting on a plane if passengers with a child under two could only sit in window seats don’t you think?

LivelyGoldOrca · 02/10/2024 22:48

You wont need a mask. Air travel is very safe. Stop panicking!

Bigsigh24 · 02/10/2024 22:49

I take that back, it does say that on Ryan Air website, but honestly witnessed different on an actual flight,

you will probs have to swap seat with someone so I wouldn’t worry from that perspective. You would hope that when booking these flights the app would recognise this need thoug x

Mynaddmawr · 02/10/2024 22:58

Also never heard of the window seat thing. I flew last month for first time with DD (infant) and sat in the aisle both ways. That was Easyjet. I think you'll be fine x

1990s · 02/10/2024 23:01

Flew with family, on EasyJet, in exactly this situation a few months ago.

It was all fine but took them a bit longer to check in as the computer was confused by this. But they booked the same as you, seat both ways and the baby just sat on their laps on way there and seat on way back. Although he protested a bit as he didn’t get he was supposed to be in his own seat!

Sometimes you don’t get a choice.
they are literally the only company that fly to the tiny airport near where my family live.

"NEVER fly with Ryanair, bloody hell. They are notoriously bad."

Rubbish.
