October weekend (half term), UK break - ideas please

We have a 3 night / 4 day break pencilled in for the start of half term. Kids are 13 and 10. We live between Manchester and Sheffield. We have already done a lot of the Lakes (but we do like it), Peak District, Cotswolds, York, Bath, Oxford, Northumberland, London. I feel like we have exhausted options but that cannot be possible!

Are there any other locations that would work for 3 nights travelling from the North? We don't mind if it's a town (kids don't like 'big' cities so much) but town or countryside would be good. Ideally somewhere with outdoor stuff/sites/walks, nice shops, nice places to eat and maybe a theatre or museum of some sort (not essential). Happy to return to somewhere we have been before IF someone recommends a good hotel/place to stay.

Ideally will stay either in a cottage or a hotel with a pool...

All suggestions welcome. Budget is approx £1000 for 3 night stay for the accommodation. Have looked at Centre Parcs but not sure it's worth the price!

Have you done much of N Yorkshire? Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay are nice, then there's the steam train to Pickering, Dalby Forest...

North Snowdonia also has a lot to do including Zip World, which your dc would love.

We’ve just booked the south Wales “ resort” for October half term after seeing someone recommend the company on one of these threads somewhere. They’ve got lots of different locations in the uk though, might be worth a look?

Herefordshire/Powys sounds like it would tick a lot of your boxes. We often stay not far from Hay-on-Wye which has the castle, bookshops, lovely places to eat. There are loads of amazing walks around to at part of the world and Hereford itself is also great - the cathedral in particular is brilliant with the Mappa Mundi and the chain library.

Second @JassyRadlett . Hereford cathedral is fabulous, nipped in for a quick look, hour and a half later still engrossed. Could have stayed longer but had to get off.

Herefordshire is beautiful.

Edinburgh - small city, loads of child friendly museums and activities, plenty of green space and outdoor options too.

I suggest Tweed Valley. Peebles would be fabulous - day trip to Edinburgh and a couple of days walking and exploring, perhaps taking a bike ride around the trails at Glentress, lots to do in wetter weather, but really good outdoor activities too.
